“I often think about our donor family. I don’t have the words to tell them how much I appreciate what they’ve done for Abigail.” Kathryn, Abigail’s mum.

This Organ Donation Week, meet Abigail. She was just six years old when her family were told she needed a heart transplant.

Abigail spent 589 days on the urgent transplant list before receiving a donor heart at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

During that wait, she was often too poorly to go to school and would miss out on many things like celebrating her friends’ birthdays. Even walking around the house made her short of breath.

We’re so pleased to share Abigail’s now at secondary school and making up for time missed. She celebrated her transplant anniversary with a rock climbing party and even completed a 50km walk last summer.

Abigail and her mum have shared their story to raise awareness of the life-changing difference organ donation can make.

“I see all the emotions families go through. The fear, hope, exhaustion, and the unconditional love they carry through every step of their child’s treatment.” Zaynab, Intensive Care Nurse.

Meet our incredible Zaynab. Inspired by the children she cares for, Zaynab recently cycled 55 miles from London to Brighton for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.

This is her why…

“Every single day I witness the strength, bravery and resilience of children facing some of the toughest things imaginable.

“Working at GOSH has shown me just how life-changing this hospital is.

“Behind every treatment, operation and moment of comfort is a team working tirelessly to give children the best possible chance at life.

“Every mile was for the children and families who inspire me every day.

”Taking part in the cycle ride was an incredible experience and I’m feeling so proud and grateful for everything I achieved.”

Please join us in congratulating Zaynab and all the TeamGOSH heroes who took on the London to Brighton Cycle Ride.

Task complete. ✅

Last weekend, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity teamed up with Channel 4’s Taskmaster for a very special live stream.

It was an evening filled with fun and silliness that also raised over £280,000 to help build our new Children’s Cancer Centre.

GOSH patient Alyssa joined on set for an exclusive behind the scenes tour. She also took part in a special live interview to share her experience and what the centre will mean for children like her.

A huge thank you to the event’s brilliant hosts Jake Bhardwaj and Alex Horne and Greg Davies, the fantastic line-up of creators and the incredible cast, crew, partners and sponsors who made it all possible.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who tuned in, donated and supported the event!

“He’s just like every little boy hitting milestones. He’ll have a great story to tell when he’s older.” Jo, Rory’s mum.

Shortly after he was born, Rory was diagnosed with a rare condition affecting his skull.

He was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital and became the first person in the world to receive a new treatment using super elastic springs to help reshape his skull.

This innovative technology, developed by experts here at GOSH and University College London, has been many years in the making.

GOSH Charity proudly funded £1 million towards the project so more children like Rory can avoid longer invasive operations.

We’re so happy to share Rory is home and enjoying playing with his big brother and dog, Ada.

“He’s happy, cheeky and full of energy. We cannot thank the team enough for the care, compassion and reassurance.”

Happy first day of school, Amelia! 🩵

We first shared Amelia’s story a few years ago. At the time she was waiting for a heart transplant and had spent 18 months at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

They were living day by day, and her parents could only dream of celebrating milestones like Amelia starting school.

But now, here she is at the front door, ready for her first day of reception!

“Seeing her in her uniform, excited to get to class, I could have burst with pride.” Jodie, Amelia’s proud mum.

“We have our child back. You can’t ever put into words how monumental that is.” Harriet, Vinny’s mum.

Since he was little, Vinny had always been a bundle of energy. So, when he began to slow down his parents knew something was wrong.

Vinny was diagnosed with leukaemia and quickly arrived at Great Ormond Street Hospital for treatment.

Three years later, we’re delighted to say that Vinny rang his end of treatment bell surrounded by his family and the staff who cared for him.

Now cancer-free, Vinny is back at school catching up with his mates. He’s also discovering his love of football and karate like every little boy should.

Congratulations, Vinny.

“Kitty adored the therapy dogs, they got her through some very dark days.” Roz, GOSH mum. 🐶

This International Dog Day, meet Kitty, the biggest dog lover we know.

She had to spend a lot of time at Great Ormond Street Hospital being treated for kidney disease. That meant being away from her furry best friend, Florence.

To make her feel more at home the hospital’s therapy dogs always made sure to stop by Kitty’s bedside. Whether it was Otis, Poppy or Doctor Ted they always had her grinning from ear to ear.

We’re delighted to say Kitty is now back at home and making up for lost time with Florence.

Has a therapy dog made you smile too? Tell us in the comments. 👇

It was a very special day as we welcomed our friend Alex Horne to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

There was plenty of laughter on the wards as Alex met staff and patients like baby Beatrice. He even set a few of his trademark tasks much to the delight of Alannah.

Alex’s visit came ahead of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity teaming up with Taskmaster for a livestreamed fundraiser. Together they're raising money to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH.

“It’s quite emotional because I didn’t think he’d be here to do his GCSEs.” Helen, Charlie's proud mum.

Charlie was only a few months old when he was diagnosed with a rare heart and lung condition.

He’s spent much of his life at Great Ormond Street Hospital and there was a time when Charlie’s family feared he wouldn’t make it to secondary school.

But today, he’s 16, and like many teens across the country, he’s celebrating his GCSE results!

Charlie will be going to sixth form in September to study Biology, Chemistry, and Maths.

Please join us in congratulating Charlie on everything he’s achieved. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. 🩵
