STRING THEORY OR THE VOICE OF GOD?

𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐩𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians presents the apocalypse of Jesus not as an end-times event but as the unveiling of a new reality through his life, death, and resurrection. The Greek word apokalypsis means revelation, and Paul sees Jesus’ work as the most significant apocalyptic event, bringing unity to creation and realigning it with God’s will. The letter emphasizes the reconciliation of Jews and Gentiles into one people of God and calls believers to respond by living in unity and transformation. Structured in two parts, Ephesians first unpacks the mystery of Christ (chapters 1-3) and then calls for practical action (chapters 4-6), guiding the community in embodying this new reality.

Powerful soul stirring article by Andy B. It brings Ephesians 6:12 to vivid visceral reality. The powers and principalities at work in and through all of this, causing confusion and chaos through the corridors of power.

Time for me to meditate on the sermon on the mount again and think about what it means to bring 1 Corinthians 13 (the love passage), Philippians 2 (the Jesus poem) and Galatians 5:22-23 (the fruits of the spirit) to life ... allowing the spirit to animate a different way of being in the world.

Starting a new series on Ephesians, influenced heavily by a semester in Bible Project classroom (11 hours, 35 sessions) in 2023 plus reading fodder and podcast observations from N.T. Wright.

We are doing this in our house group, so I agreed to deliver some two page summaries of key takeaways and reflections. I thought I might share it.

Greatest teacher?

Jesus didn't answer many questions. Most often he answered the person who asked the question.

So when approaching the text perhaps the best questions we can ask are "Who is he talking to? and why?" and then "Where am I in this story?"
