At the heart of attachment theory is the understanding that human beings are inherently oriented towards forming emotional bonds. These bonds are not secondary to development but central to it, shaping both internal experience and relational patterns across the lifespan. Early relational experiences often contribute to internal working models that continue to influence how individuals relate to others in adulthood.

CALL FOR PAPERS
ATTACHMENT AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
For a special edition of Attachment: New Directions in Psychotherapy and Relational Psychoanalysis
Possible themes to write about include:
• the impact of digital technology on our attachment patterns
• social implications of digital technology, such as the spread of misinformation, misogyny, and polarisation
• concerns about privacy and security and the implications for psychotherapists
• AI psychosis
• examples of how digital technology has impacted clinical work and supervision
• the ethical and moral implications of using digital technology
• attachment hacking and digital boundaries on- and offline.

This is not an exhaustive list, so if you have an idea for an article, please email the editor-in-chief, Kate Brown, at [email protected] for an informal discussion about writing for the journal on this theme.

The deadline to receive articles for consideration of publication for this special issue is 31 July 2026.
