FILIPINO-AMERICAN NURSE INDICTED IN ALLEGED $906 MILLION U.S. HEALTHCARE FRAUD SCHEME
A Filipino-American nurse practitioner from Nevada has been indicted in the United States for allegedly masterminding one of the largest healthcare fraud schemes in recent yearsβan operation prosecutors say generated approximately $906 million in fraudulent Medicare and TRICARE claims.
According to a federal indictment filed on June 18, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Marizel Yukee allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated scheme that targeted some of Americaβs most vulnerable patients, including elderly Medicare beneficiaries and terminally ill hospice patients.
Authorities allege the fraud resulted in approximately $297 million in government payouts, with investigators claiming the proceeds financed an extravagant luxury lifestyle, including the construction of a $4.6 million beach resort in Santa Ana, Cagayan, Philippines.
* Actual Payouts: While $906 million was billed, U.S. government programsβspecifically Medicare and Tricare (the healthcare program for uniformed service members)βactually paid out $297 million to Yukee's network.
WHAT PROSECUTORS ALLEGE
According to the indictment, Yukee owned and controlled four wound care companies operating across Texas, Nevada, California, and Hawaii:
β’ Wound Medic LLC
β’ My BestHealth First LLC
β’ AllCare Mobile Wound Treatment LLC
β’ Oracle Wound Treatment LLC
Federal prosecutors allege that between October 2023 and April 2025, these companies billed Medicare and TRICARE for medically unnecessary allografts (human tissue grafts used in wound treatment).
Investigators claim the clinics submitted an average of more than $1 million in claims per patient, despite many patients allegedly not meeting the medical requirements for the expensive treatments.
THE ALLEGED SCHEME
The indictment accuses Yukee and her alleged co-conspirators of:
β’ Applying medically unnecessary wound grafts.
β’ Billing Medicare and TRICARE at highly inflated prices.
β’ Accepting millions of dollars in illegal kickbacks from distributors.
β’ Paying healthcare providers for patient referrals.
β’ Falsifying patient medical records to make treatments appear medically necessary.
β’ Targeting elderly and terminally ill hospice patients.
Federal prosecutors further allege that some hospice patients died only days after receiving the costly procedures.
THE MONEY TRAIL
According to court documents, investigators believe the alleged fraud proceeds were used to purchase numerous luxury assets, including:
β’ A $4.6 million beach resort development in Santa Ana, Cagayan.
β’ A multi-million-dollar estate in Hawaii.
β’ Luxury sports cars, including a Ferrari.
β’ An $865,000 Bulgari diamond necklace.
β’ High-end jewelry, bank accounts, and other real estate.
The U.S. government is seeking forfeiture of numerous assets believed to have been purchased using the alleged fraud proceeds.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Before entering business, Yukee built a successful healthcare career.
According to publicly available records:
β’ Earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of South Alabama.
β’ Previously worked at the University Medical Center (UMC) of Southern Nevada.
β’ Practiced as a nurse practitioner in Las Vegas.
β’ Expanded into wound care businesses operating across multiple U.S. states.
COMMUNITY RECOGNITION
Ironically, only months before the indictment, Yukee was publicly honored.
In October 2025, she received recognition as one of the βMost Influential Filipinos in the Worldβ during The Outstanding Filipino Awards (TOFA) in Las Vegas, earning praise for representing Filipino excellence abroad.
PERSONAL ROOTS
Marizel Yukee is originally from Annafunan West, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines.
The federal indictment specifically references the alleged construction of a luxury beach resort in nearby Santa Ana, Cagayan, which prosecutors say was financed using proceeds from the alleged fraud.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
An indictment is a formal criminal accusationβnot a conviction.
The U.S. government must still prove every allegation beyond a reasonable doubt in court. If convicted, Yukee could face substantial prison time, financial penalties, and forfeiture of assets connected to the alleged fraud.
