Last Friday’s announcement felt like a significant moment for the mental health sector.

This is because: "For years, mental health charities have been calling for a long-term cross-government Mental Health Strategy. We’ve shared our expertise, from service delivery to lived experience. This new strategy is now an opportunity for Government to use this expertise and truly transform its approach to mental health across the country."

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the power of action, community, and connection.

This week, we’ve highlighted the incredible work mental health charities are doing every day to ensure people can access the right support, in the right place, at the right time, so that no one has to struggle alone.

At the Association of Mental Health Providers, we represent and champion mental health charities across England and Wales, working alongside members, system partners, and people with lived experience to influence policy, strengthen services, and improve mental health support for communities across the country.

If your organisation shares our commitment to improving support and strengthening the charity sector, we’d love for you to join us.

What does it mean to know mental health support is there when you need it?

Our member Everyturn Mental Health provides support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

As Everyturn's Chief Executive Adam Crampsie shared:

"Mental Health Awareness Week is an important reminder that mental health support cannot wait. At Everyturn, our teams provide help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - from clinical rehabilitation and specialist nursing services to mental health first responders supporting people in crisis 24 hours a day."

What would it look like if everyone could access mental health support to live a meaningful life, in a society free from stigma?

This is the vision of our member Mental Health Matters that supports thousands of people across England through crisis services, talking therapies, employment services, 24/7 helplines and community-based mental health support. One of these services is Rotherham Safe Space - an out-of-hours support service for adults experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis.

By offering immediate, compassionate and non-judgemental support, the service helps people feel heard, understood, and less alone when they need it most.

As Saira Ajaib, Team Manager at Rotherham Safe Space, shared:
“Every day, we take action by being present, listening without judgment, offering immediate compassionate support, and creating a safe space where people feel heard and understood.”

What does it mean for a young person to feel safe enough to trust someone during their hardest moments?

Our member Muslim Youth Helpline (MYH) has been providing free, confidential, and faith-sensitive support for young people across the UK through its helpline, webchat, and email services for over 20 years. Their work helps create safe spaces where young people can speak openly about their mental health, relationships, identity, family pressures and emotional wellbeing without judgement.

As one helpline officer shared:
“Every shift leaves me reflecting on what a privilege it is that someone feels comfortable enough to trust me during their hardest moments.” 👇

We have joined A Million Acts of Hope - a national campaign running from 13-20 May to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness, care, and connection happening across the UK.

At a time when division and uncertainty can feel overwhelming, this campaign is shining a light on the people and communities creating hope every day. Mental health charities see the impact of this through the communities they support, and by helping people feel connected, valued, and less alone.

💚 It’s Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

Organised by our partner, the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s theme is action.

Across England and Wales, mental health charities are taking action every day, providing vital support, centring lived experience, and helping people access support before crisis point.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing examples of the positive impact our members are making.
