For over 100 years, we have supported residents at every stage of life, from helping people find a safe home, to supporting employment, independence, wellbeing and long-term community connection.

To mark this milestone, we want to share the story of one remarkable resident, John, aged 86. His journey from life on the stage to becoming a true community champion shows what connection and purpose can look like at any age.

For us, supporting older residents has always meant creating safe homes, strong communities and moments that truly matter.

From seeing a 101-year-old resident presented with a new set of war medals by the Ministry of Defence, to providing welcoming retirement housing and celebrating milestones together, we’re proud of the care, connection and community we’ve built over the years. Through redeveloped spaces, award-winning schemes and joyful celebrations, our older residents continue to shape our neighbourhoods and the communities around them.

Over the years, we’ve loved creating spaces and memories for our residents - from a brand-new playground at Watermill Lane and new garden space at St Anne’s, to special days out together, including a fun trip to Chessington World of Adventure and a seaside adventure. It’s been wonderful to see residents enjoy time outdoors, build connections and make new memories across our communities.

Origin Housing is continuing its journey alongside Places for People.

Since joining the Places for People Group in April 2024, we’ve unlocked £100 million of additional investment for our homes and community services over the next decade - helping us strengthen communities and support people and neighbourhoods to thrive.

From 1 April 2026, we’ll be working even more closely as part of Places for People, while staying true to our commitment to provide homes people are proud to live in. Everything that matters - your home, your rights and your services - remains protected, with new opportunities ahead.

Today marks a decade of our Young People’s service in Camden - supporting 16–25-year-olds leaving care, and helping them build confidence, independence and brighter futures.

From providing tailored housing and support in Camden, to winning Team of the Year at the Housing Heroes Awards and celebrating individual success stories, our Young People’s service has helped almost 300 young people over the decade!

We have so many incredible stories from our residents - like Kalal’s - who talks about how the service helped him find community and even get involved in a local performing arts course.

Over the years, we have built many shared ownership homes, helping people take their first steps onto the property ladder.

Our new-build shared ownership homes have been designed with sustainability in mind with features including ground source heat pumps and thoughtful planting to encourage wildlife.

But they are also about new beginnings. Residents, such as Richard, have shared how moving into his new home at Novella has helped him rebuild his life - moving from hostel living to a space he now truly calls his own.

Over the years, we’ve supported residents to get online and build digital skills, invested in local projects that bring communities to life, and we’re extremely proud of everything we’ve achieved.

Here are just a few highlights:
• Our digital inclusion support has helped residents feel more confident using computers and the internet, whether for job-searching, everyday tasks or staying connected with loved ones.
• Through our Community Fund, we’ve supported events, wellbeing activities and local projects like Camden United and Urban Community Project that strengthen neighbourhoods.
• And every year, colleagues and contractors come together to support households at Christmas with vouchers and hampers, helping bring kindness and reassurance at a time when it matters most.

Creating safe, supportive places for people experiencing homelessness - like our Enfield Single Housing service - has always been a priority for us. The impact of this support is often best seen through individual stories, like Dennis’s journey from homelessness to stability.

But it’s not just about providing a place to live - it’s also about building a sense of belonging. Events like the Enfield summer BBQ bring residents and colleagues together for food, conversation and laughter, helping to create a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and valued.
