📣 Update: The public call for evidence for the National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation in England is open.

We hear from women and new parents feeling overwhelmed, unsupported, and worried about safety during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period every day.

We understand how difficult this investigation may be for you, as someone who has recently had a baby or if you are currently pregnant.

Whether to take part in the survey or not, will be a very individual choice. But most importantly, you should do what feels right for you.

The call for evidence consists of two surveys: one for women and people who have been pregnant to share their experiences of maternity and neonatal services; and one for people who have supported someone through pregnancy.

The surveys are available online, with easy-read versions, translation into seven languages, and a postal option for those who prefer not to respond online. Interpreter support and one-to-one interviews are also available.

We're here to support you. We have local groups and events for you if you need someone to listen, evidence-based info online for all your pregnancy, baby, and new parent questions, and NCT's experienced practitioners can support with sensitive topics like feeding your baby.

Know that at NCT, we will continue to call for safe, personalised, and equitable NHS care for every parent and every birth 💚

📢 Calling all parents and parents to be!

Did you know that today 24th September 2025 marks National Fitness Day and this year the theme is ‘Powered By You’. Our Walk & Talk Events are powered by our great volunteers and could not continue without your regular support. They are free to attend and the perfect way to get out and enjoy the fresh air, whilst improving your all-round health and fitness at the same time.

What is an NCT Walk & Talk? It's simple! It's a relaxed, informal gathering where parents, parents-to-be, and carers can meet up for a walk, chat, and connect. It's a fantastic way to:

Get some gentle exercise – perfect for new parents!

Meet other local parents and build your support network.

Share experiences and advice in a relaxed setting.

Boost your mood with fresh air and good company.

Show your little one the world from their buggy or sling!

Why host one? You don't need to be an NCT member or have participated in an NCT antenatal course! Simply choose a date, time, and a buggy-friendly route in your local area, and invite others to join you. It's a wonderful way to bring your community together and help combat loneliness that can sometimes affect new parents.

Ready to host or join? ✨ It's easy! visit our website to see if there's one happening near you, or even better, why not set one up yourself? We can help you promote it!

Hello everyone. I’m Alex, an NCT Postnatal Practitioner and my first book ‘Motherdom’ was published earlier this year. It draws upon my work running groups for new mothers in the local area over the past decade. It explores birth, feeding, baby development and the immense pressure mothers can feel to do things ‘right.’

I’m doing a talk about the book on Thursday 25 September at our weekly Baby Café in Balham Baptist Church. If anyone would like a signed copy, books can be ordered online in advance from Backstory and I will pick them up for you before my talk. The link is here: https://backstory.london/products/motherdom?_pos=1&_sid=b13a0832f&_ss=r Btw it is coming out in paperback in February when it will be cheaper!!

For those of you who haven’t been to the Baby Café, it offers feeding support and is also a welcoming space for parents and caregivers to meet up. There are tea and biscuits on offer, plus toys and books for older babies/toddlers. It runs every Thursday from 10.30-12.30. Hope to see some of you there soon!
