As most people will know already, the quarry has been approved.
Our local councillors (Annandale North) on the planning committee voted as follows: Lynne David (CON) voted “AGAINST” the quarry, and Stephen Thompson (SNP) voted “FOR” the quarry.
The planning committee voted 12 for and 5 against.
FOR (12): Jim Dempster, Andrew Giusti, Tony Berretti, Ian Blake, John Campbell, Ian Carruthers, Chrissie Hill, Iain Howie, Maureen Johnstone, Kim Lowe, Andy McFarlane and Stephen Thompson.
AGAINST (5): Lynne Davis, Emma Jordan, Sean Marshall, David Slater and Keith Walters.
APPROVED application 23/2362/FUL subject to (A) the successful completion of Section 75 Planning Obligation within 6 months of the date of the decision or such other reasonable extended timescales as agreed by the appointed officer and (B) the conditions as detailed in the report and FURTHER AGREED to attach a directive to request a watching brief with regards to fossils on the site.
So once the completion of the Section 75 Planning Obligation is completed and 20 conditions are agreed upon, with some needing actioned before, during and after the quarry is operational, along with a watching brief regarding fossils on the site, Hightae will have a quarry on its doorstep.
Due to the community's concerns and what we have highlighted, many of these conditions would not have been implemented. Thank you to everyone for their help and support. Sadly, it’s not better news, and we can only hope the quarry doesn’t impact our daily lives.
