Did you know ScotJam: Explorers can support progress towards several Explorer Scout Top Awards?

ScotJam is not just a week of adventure - it is also a fantastic opportunity for Explorers to develop skills and complete elements of their awards while taking part in high-quality outdoor programmes at Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead .

Several ScotJam: Explorers programmes can contribute towards the Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, Chief Scout’s Diamond Award, and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The Expedition and Hillwalking programme includes training and expedition elements that meet the expedition requirements for the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award.

For Explorers working towards their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, ScotJam: Explorers may also count as the Residential section, as participants join a week-long programme with people they do not normally work with while developing new skills and experiences.

Alongside this, Explorers can choose from seven specialist programmes, including multi-activity adventure, paddlesports, sailing and powerboat, hills and rock skills, bushcraft and survival, expedition and hillwalking, and young leader development.

Adventure, achievement and award progress - all in one unforgettable week.

👏Huge thanks to Bells Nautical Trust for their generous £1,500 grant, which has enabled us at Lochgoilhead to order the parts needed to repair our Dart boats.

Thanks to their support, we’ll be able to get one on the water later this year, expanding the range of water-based educational activities available at the centre, giving more young people the opportunity to enjoy time on the water 🛶🩵

We were delighted to welcome Permit Assessors from across the UK to the Permit Assessor Gathering at Lochgoilhead, held from 10–12 April 2026.

👉 This type of event will become mandatory for permit assessors moving forward as part of the permit review process.

The weekend included a range of workshops, both practical and classroom-based, alongside opportunities to hear from the safety team about the review of the permit scheme. There was also dedicated time for networking, as well as a great evening talk from Kirsty Mack, the first Scottish woman to climb K2.

Thanks go to the centre team, along with the Scouts Scotland Adventure Team and members of the UK Safety Team, for making the event happen. We also appreciate the support from national governing bodies Paddle Scotland, RYA Scotland, and Mountain Training Scotland

Watch this space for dates for the next events coming soon!

What if your Cub could spend a week in July trying brand new adventures, making friends from across Scotland - and come home more confident than ever?

That’s exactly what ScotJam delivers.

From 2025, Cubs told us they loved Mega SUP, abseiling, bushcraft, the disco - and the friendships that made the week unforgettable.

ScotJam fully supported, action-packed week where Cubs are encouraged, looked after, and given the chance to grow in confidence.

Places won’t last forever — give your Cub an experience they’ll never forget.

The 16th Clyde Scout Group were established in 2024 with support from our Growth & Communities Team as part of our Underrepresented Communities project.

They started with 10 Beavers and 10 Cubs and now have over 200 young people across Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and partnered Explorer Scouts. They are now our first Scout Group and Explorer Scout Unit to benefit from CashBack for Communities Phase 7.

A number of their Scouts and Explorer Scouts spent this weekend at Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead developing age appropriate leadership skills. We look forward seeing this group, their adults and their young people, continue to thrive.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Scouts Scotland and the camp management of Scout Adventures Lochgoilhead for their outstanding hospitality and exceptional organisation, which truly exceeded all expectations.
It was a remarkable experience in every sense, bringing genuine joy to our children and filling their hearts with excitement and wonderful memories.
The positive impact went even further, as we received an abundance of encouraging messages from parents expressing their happiness and satisfaction—clear evidence of the success of this inspiring experience.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this a success. We look forward to repeating this experience again soon, with even more memorable and enriching moments to come.
