So a couple of months ago for the first time ever, I applied for funding with the NHS capital Grants Western Isles and well I still can't believe it but we have been successful!
I have been fundraising with help from family, friends & our community for two years now, raising an amazing £5,000.00.
Then out of the blue in January 2026 we have received £5,000.00 donation from Stòras Uibhist (SURE) and a £2,000.00 donation pledge by U.C.V.O. along with individuals donating large sums (some wanting to remain anonymous) we are currently sitting just under £12,500.00.
NHS Capital Grants have awarded a staggering £25,080.00, yes you read that right! This really is getting the ball rolling with the beach wheelchair to be operational for public use this time next (earlier if we can).
I do not want to rush in and not have this in order to work properly for the user, their carer & for the overall smooth running of it. I also want to spend the money wisely, making sure the pot stays healthy for the everyday costs this project requires. Needless to say donations & purchasing by donation the homebaking/pies etc we have available will continue.
A huge thank you to Sgoil an Iochdair a' chomhearsnaig for helping with the application, as a good will gesture we are donating £280 to their charity.
And it goes without say a huge thank you to the Capital Grant Funding board for awarding us this much needed some of money.
