Adventure is the ultimate classroom 🌊🥾

Our first-year students recently headed to West Wales for an unforgettable camping trip packed with experiential learning. From testing their limits while coasteering at the stunning Abereiddy to taking in the rugged coastline on a hike from Celtic Camping to Porthgain, they truly embraced the spirit of UWC Atlantic.

They also had the chance to slow down and explore the historic city of St Davids.

These are the moments where lifelong friendships are forged and resilience is built. Way to go, first-years.

Find out more about a landmark two-year study by the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge which has officially endorsed UWC Atlantic's Systems Transformation Pathway (STP) - a ground-breaking curriculum co-developed in partnership with the International Baccalaureate (IB).

The report confirms that the STP successfully shifts students away from traditional rote learning and exams toward high-level systemic leadership and real-world impact. By tackling transdisciplinary "Impact Areas" like Biodiversity, Energy, and Migration, students are moving from just learning about global challenges to actively intervening in them.

"The STP represents a significant and timely contribution to global education, equipping young people with the capability to engage meaningfully with complexity and change." - Mark Winterbottom, Professor of Education, Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge.

This Volunteers Week, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has given their time, expertise and energy to support UWC Atlantic this year.

From mentoring students, speaking at Conferences and in classrooms, serving on boards and committees, representing us at admissions events, sharing alumni stories, offering career guidance and caring for our historic campus, every contribution has helped strengthen our community and enrich the student experience.

Aaaaand they're off! Our first year students are making their way to Pembrokeshire for few days of camping, connection and exploring our wonderful Welsh coast before returning home for the summer for a well deserved rest.

🌍 THEY’RE OFF! 18 SCHOOLS. 18 DAYS. 18 STORIES. 🚴‍♂️

Today, 1st June, the journey officially begins! Two of our very own UWC Atlantic Class of ‘25 graduates, Alessandro Tazartes and Luis Sáenz Pombo, have just left Reykjavik to ride Iceland's full Ring Road—a massive 1,332 kilometres in 18 days!

Through their "Bifrost" project, they are linking the entire global UWC community to raise four scholarships for young people who need them most: one Icelandic student and three students whose lives have been disrupted by war.

Today, we are incredibly proud to highlight our own AC alumni. We are sending them the biggest wave of support, strong legs and a fair wind as they start Day One of this gruelling but deeply inspiring journey.

Talk about an AC reunion at the highest level! 🏰✨

For the first time ever, THREE Oxford University colleges are simultaneously being led by UWC Atlantic alumni! Please join us in congratulating our incredible alumni:

🎓 Jonathan Michie (AC 73-75) – President of Kellogg College, University of Oxford,
🎓 Nick Leimu-Brown (AC 79-81) – Principal of Linacre College, University of Oxford
🎓 Beth Breeze (nee Egan) (AC 88-90) – Principal of Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford

Reflecting on how AC shaped her path, Beth Breeze (AC 88-90) shared: “Winning a full scholarship to live and study alongside idealistic young people from across the world opened up a whole new world of opportunity... I remain grateful to AC for putting me on the path to a meaningful and enjoyable life.”

Nick Leimu-Brown (AC 79-81) added that his time at AC taught him that "diversity in all its forms is not simply a virtue but a catalyst for intellectual richness, creativity and innovation."

Jonathan says "I'm delighted that the internationalism of the United World College movement is reflected at Kellogg College, and Oxford more generally."

We couldn't be prouder to see the values of the United World College movement thriving and our three alumni leading a trio of Oxford colleges.
