Work-shadowing can be the first step towards a new career, and that's exactly what it was for Dylan.

As part of the SustainAbility project, Dylan recently completed a work-shadowing placement with the WRU Community Team, where he gained hands-on experience in graphic design and content creation.

Working alongside Content Developer Benny Griffiths, Dylan developed new creative skills, gained insight into the industry and built confidence in his future career path.

Dylan shared: "I had a great time shadowing the WRU Community Team. I've picked up some great skills here that have greatly enhanced my graphic design knowledge. This experience has been fantastic, and I can't wait to see how my career will progress in the future!"

A huge thank you to the WRU Community Team for giving Dylan this fantastic opportunity and helping him take another step towards achieving his goals.

Gall cysgodi yn y gwaith fod yn gam cyntaf tuag at yrfa newydd, a dyna'n union oedd hi i Dylan.

Fel rhan o brosiect SustainAbility, cwblhaodd Dylan yn ddiweddar gyfnod o gysgodi gyda Thîm Cymunedol Undeb Rygbi Cymru (URC), lle cafodd brofiad ymarferol o ddylunio graffig a chreu cynnwys.

Wrth weithio ochr yn ochr â'r Datblygwr Cynnwys, Benny Griffiths, datblygodd Dylan sgiliau creadigol newydd, cafodd gipolwg gwerthfawr ar y diwydiant, ac adeiladodd fwy o hyder yn ei lwybr gyrfa yn y dyfodol.

Dywedodd Dylan:

Building Stronger Partnerships for a Sustainable Future

Strong partnerships are key to creating lasting environmental and social impact, which is why it was great to meet with the team at Gold Works Blaenau Gwent Business Hub to explore ways of working together.

The discussion focused on how the SustainAbility Project can connect with local businesses, community organisations and initiatives such as Wisdom Wednesdays to share ideas, encourage collaboration and support sustainable growth across the county.

By building relationships and bringing organisations together, we're creating more opportunities for businesses and communities to get involved, share knowledge and make a positive difference.

We're excited to continue developing these partnerships and look forward to working together to support a more sustainable future for Blaenau Gwent.

We're delighted that three Elite participants are starting six-month paid employment opportunities with ChopStix, taking an exciting step towards long-term employment.

To mark the beginning of the partnership, participants had the opportunity to visit Chopstix stores across Bridgend Designer Outlet, Queen Street Cardiff and St David's Cardiff, meeting store teams, learning more about their new roles and experiencing the welcoming culture that awaits them.

These paid placements will help participants build confidence, gain valuable workplace experience and develop skills for the future.

A huge thank you to everyone at Chopstix and Elite for making this partnership possible. We look forward to following our participants' journeys and celebrating their achievements in the months ahead.

What a fantastic .

🌟 National Volunteers' Week 🌟

We're celebrating Thomas and the fantastic contribution he's making through volunteering with Farplace Animal Rescue.
After joining ELITE's Supported Employment Project in August 2025, Thomas developed his confidence and employability skills through vocational assessments, job club sessions and career preparation activities.

Looking for retail experience close to home, Thomas visited Farplace Animal Rescue and immediately knew it was the right fit, telling his Employment Advisor: "This is the one."

Since starting his volunteer role in April 2026, Thomas has become a valued member of the team, helping organise stock and sort donations. His dedication has impressed the shop manager so much that he's been told to slow down because he's getting through the donations too quickly!

Well done, Thomas – your journey shows how volunteering can build confidence, skills and experience while making a real difference in the community.

From building confidence to building a career 💙

Ellis is celebrating an incredible journey with us. After joining ELITE Supported Employment five years ago through the Engage to Change programme, he found support and confidence through work experience with our social enterprise, ELITE Clothing Solutions.

In 2023, Ellis was offered a part-time position of 16 hours a week giving him “greater independence and self-belief that I could thrive in a workplace with paid employment”. But his journey didn’t stop there…

Studying for a Supported Shared Apprenticeship in Warehouse and Storage, Ellis developed new skills and achieved his qualification one year later!

Today, Ellis remains a valued member of the ELITE Clothing Solutions team. He said: “Their support has helped me build stability and sustainability in my life, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities they have given me.”

We’re happy to see you thriving, Ellis! 💙

Still time to register for our information session tomorrow for the Welsh Government's Employability Support Programme (ESP)

In partnership with Elite Supported Employment, we're seeking to engage with organisations who may be interested in working alongside us as part of a collaborative regional delivery partnership.

The ESP programme is expected to initially support young people aged up to 24 who are not currently in education, employment or training, with the potential for additional cohorts, including individuals experiencing short-term and long-term unemployment to be introduced over time. Delivery will be commissioned on a regional basis and is intended to reflect local labour market need, community context and place-based service design.

As we kick off Apprenticeship Week across the nation, we want to highlight Kayleigh, who is our Project Manager at Elite, and is also working towards her ILM Level 5 Diploma in the Principles of Leadership and Management
Kayleigh has worked with us for just over 6 years and is our Project Manager on SustainAbility – a green careers programme funded by the National Lottery.

Kayleigh shared her thoughts with us about the skills for life she will gain from this apprenticeship:

“Working towards my ILM Level 5 has provided valuable insight into effective leadership and management. The apprenticeship programme is helping me strengthen my strategic thinking, develop practical tools for leading teams, and refine the way I approach decision-making. I’m fortunate to have supportive line managers who provide guidance, encouragement, and space to apply what I’m learning in practice. Their support has been invaluable in helping me grow throughout this journey. It’s proving to be an important step in my ongoing professional development.”
