It’s a rather scant programme of walks for August, but so many people are away on holiday. In addition to what’s here, there may be a walk on 6th August. I’ll post the details later if there is. So here’s what we have so far –
Thursday August 20th : Hilbre Island. Meet outside the seafront toilets at the north end of Marine Lake, West Kirby (Grid Ref SJ 210967, CH48 0QG) at 10am for a walk across the sands to Hilbre Island. There and back total distance, 4 miles. Ice cream at the end!. Hilbre, at the mouth of the Dee estuary, is accessible only for 3 hours on either side of low tide. Bird life abounds, seals bask on the sandbanks, and there’s an old lifeboat station and composting toilet. A visit to a tidal island is always exciting so if you haven’t been before, don’t miss it! Leader, Judy (07905 330788)
Thursday 27th August : The next canal walk in the series, Ellesmere to Hampton Bank. Meet at Hampton Bank (Grid Ref SJ 460344, nearest postcode SY12 0QE) at 10am for car shuttle back to Ellesmere. Walk back, 4 miles. To get to Hampton Bank, take the Wem road out of Welshampton and after 2 miles, turn left immediately before the canal bridge. Roadside parking in 200 yards. Leader, Judy (07905 330788). Please let me know if you intend to come on this walk so I can sort out the car shuttle.

Here's our July programme

Thursday July 2nd : Catch the 9.35am T3 bus from Llangollen Parade Street to Llidiart y Parc. Walk back over Moel Fferna and Vivod Mountain. 10 fairly demanding miles, but the views are stupendous (including Snowdon on a fine day!). Leader is Judy (tel or text 07905 330788)

July 13th – 17th : The penultimate section of the Wales Coast Path! Starting on the Monday in the centre of Cardiff and ending on Thursday at the Wetlands Centre beyond Newport, 24 miles in total. Easy walking. More details from the leader, Judy (tel or text 097905 330788)

Thursday 23rd July : The next Canal Walk in the series. Meet at Hampton Bank Bridge (Grid Ref SJ 450344, commit.loaf.kettles), 10am, for car shuttle back to Ellesmere. Walk back from Ellesmere to Hampton Bank along the towpath, 4 miles. To get to the meeting place, take the B5063 (Signposted Northwood) out of Welshampton and turn left in the hamlet of Hampton Bank, immediately before the canal bridge to find roadside parking. Leader is Judy (tel or text 07905330788)

Thursday 30th July : Meet outside the Bridge End pub beside Llangollen Bridge at 10am for a 7-mile reasonably demanding walk starting out over Castell Dinas Bran (although you can go round the foot if you prefer!). Leader is Bethan (tel or text 07742 932258)

Llangollen Ramblers is an informal group, always very happy indeed to see new members. If you have any questions about the walks here, don’t hesitate to ring the leaders. All walks will include a coffee stop (bring your own!) and for the longer walks, please bring a packed lunch also. Sadly, dogs are not permitted on the longer walks on account of livestock, stiles, etc but dogs on a lead are welcome on the canal walk. More questions? Just ring Judy on 07905 330788
