AFWI Anglesey Federation of WIs There are a total of 16 WI branches on Anglesey. There are some that meet in the afternoon and others in the evening.

Two of the WI's conduct their meetings solely through the medium of Welsh. There will be certain similarities between these branches - eg they will all have monthly meetings with speakers or a demonstration but each individual WI is unique, because its members are. If you fancy giving the WI a try contact us - by phone, email, via this page or our Website - and we will put you in touch with a WI in your area. The WI is here to inspire you! You may just be surprised!

After a potential resolution a couple of years ago about recycling used medicines blister packs, one of our Wis found out that they could get them recycled in Boots, Bangor.

Well done, Llanfairpwll-Gwyngyll WI, for saving so many blister packs going to landfill and getting them recycled properly. The picture is of some of this months recycling - and they have been doing this for over a year!

We couldn't leave Anglesey Guide Centre Lligwy today without a picture by the front door like so many groups before us. Two members said they remember going there as a Brownie and as a Guide, and commented how much the place had changed.

The NFWI Annual Meeting was excellent, with inspiring speakers and informative debates on the two resolutions which were both voted For. So expect to see action locally on the availability of public toilets and the issues around women's homelessness.

Right at the end, we had personal messages from two truly inspiring women:

Hon Julia Gillard AC, PM of Australia 2010-13, shared some reflections on her time in politics and said that society needs strong voices to push progress forward.

Dame Jacinda Ardern, PM of New Zealand 2017-23, told us that as she started out on her career other people encouraged her to take on responsibilities she didn't feel equipped for.

It was a brilliant day for our organisation which started after a decision made in the summerhouse of Graig, Llanfairpwll, 111 years ago to start the first WI in Britain.

Link delegates, officers and members of AFWI are watching the online NFWI Annual Meeting from Anglesey Guide Centre Lligwy this year. Its a very jolly atmosphere here while we listen to engaging speakers and hear about the wider WI world.

Anglesey was truly put on the map on a slide about the Denman Grant which is funding a variety of events over the coming months.

There was plenty of laughter and chat at the Federation Annual Review meeting in Llangefni Town Hall. Full use was made of the big screen as we sang Jerusalem along with thousands of WI members and the late Queen at the Royal Albert Hall in 2015. There were reports from our Board members on the events and finances during the year.

Our guest speaker told us about the benefits of growing older, and that laughter and friendships help improve our later years. Certificates were presented, the raffle drawn and delicious cakes enjoyed.

The anthems were sung along with the England women's football team and the Welsh women's rugby team on the big screen to end a memorable meeting.

Members of Menai Straits WI enjoyed a sunny walk around Llyn Padarn last month, and took a photo by this iconic tree. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area.

A lively group of a dozen officers and members of AFWI have come to Aberystwyth for what promises to be an excellent NFWI-Wales Annual Conference hosted by Ceredigion WI

We travelled here through sleet and snow yesterday, and we're blown along the seafront by a strong wind to our hotel. It was good to socialise over food last night and we are presently catching up with old friends and making new before the Conference starts.

There are displays in the lobby about current NFWI campaigns which are an important part of our WI life.
