Our annual grass cutting programme is now underway to maintain road safety and protect pollinators.

In most areas, grass will be cut in one-metre swathes where growth is affecting visibility or pedestrian safety. Many areas will be left uncut until later in the season to allow wildflowers to bloom and set seed to protect important habitats and to support wildlife and vital pollinating insects.

Cutting in these areas will only take place where there are clear health and safety concerns, particularly in 20–40mph zones within towns and villages.

This isn’t a cost-cutting exercise. Pollinating insects play a crucial role in sustaining ecosystems by enabling the reproduction of wild plants, which form the foundation of many habitats. They are also vital to the production of a wide range of crops.

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Gareth 🌟

Last but certainly not least, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Gareth and thank him for the incredible support he provides to our Neurodiverse Group every Wednesday.

Gareth plays a vital role in helping group members attend and participate in sessions, offering support from the moment they arrive and throughout the day. His calm, patient, and encouraging approach helps create a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable, valued, and included.

Whether he’s helping people get to the Goods Shed, offering reassurance, or supporting activities during the sessions, Gareth is always there with a helping hand and a friendly smile.

His dedication and commitment make a real difference to the lives of the people he supports, and his contribution helps ensure that our Neurodiverse Group remains a positive and accessible space for everyone involved.

Thank you, Gareth, for your kindness, reliability, and the care you show to our community every week. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do. ❀️

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Gills 🌟

This week we’re celebrating Gills, whose determination, positivity, and dedication continue to inspire everyone at the Goods Shed.

After returning to volunteering following major surgery, Gills has shown incredible resilience and commitment. Rather than slowing down, she has thrown herself back into supporting our community with the same energy and enthusiasm that we all know and admire.

Gills consistently goes above and beyond, taking on challenges with a smile and setting an example for us all. Her drive, strength, and willingness to help others seem to put the rest of us to shameβ€”she truly jumps over all our heads when it comes to dedication and getting things done!

Her positive attitude and unwavering support make a real difference to our volunteers, visitors, and the wider Goods Shed community.

Thank you, Gills, for your hard work, determination, and for showing us what can be achieved with perseverance and passion. We are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team. ❀️
