Peony Breast Care at Prince Philip Hospital We are a local breast cancer charity based in South West Wales supporting local women through diagnosis and treatment.

We contribute to research which benefits women with breast cancer throughout the UK and worldwide. We will make sure your donations are put to good use. Some of your money will be spent helping to support women put at financial disadvantage by their diagnosis, particularly while they wait for grants from other sources such as the major charities like Macmillan, which always takes time. We like to keep all the equipment as up to date as possible so that we can diagnose breast cancer promptly and early to give our patients the highest chance of being cured. At the same time, we want to keep the facilities up to the highest standard so that our patients’ treatment and stay in hospital is as convenient and comfortable as possible. Finally, we will not be satisfied until we are able to cure everyone presenting with breast cancer at whatever stage, so the unit is involved in some very important research into 3-dimensional mammography, gene expression analysis and intra-operative node analysis. Some of this research is already not only benefiting the women of our area, but women with breast cancer throughout the UK and wider world.

I have recently had a mastectomy here at the Peony ward in Llanelli . I stayed for 6 days and the care and compassion I experienced was incredible. Every member of staff made me feel welcome, appreciated and supported.
They made a scary scenario into a really pleasant and happy process and in fact I was reluctant to leave.
The rooms are lovely, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the care is second to none. Everyone is so friendly and kind. 🥰🥰🥰

I actually really enjoyed my time here and felt well rested and relaxed by the end of the week.
Thank you so much to all of the wonderful staff on Peony 7 ! I will be starting some fund raising for you as soon as I’m 💯.

Important new research by our unit presented to the world this week.

The Prince Philip Hospital is presenting the results of a multi centre trial run by the unit at the worlds premier Breast Cancer meeting in San Antonio, TX, USA. This shows that half of women with breast cancer and lymph node involvement could safely avoid chemotherpy by using the Oncotype DX gene test.

Prof Holt who lead the trial commented, "This trial shows that the use of Oncotype DX in early node positive breast cancer is a win for everyone. More than 50% of patients are spared unnecessary chemotherapy, doctors and patients become more confident they have chosen the correct treatment and the NHS saves money which can then be used for other priorities."
