The South Wales Railcar Group was established in February 2021 as a support arm to the Llanelli and M

We have been appointed as principal fundraisers of the railways Class 122 DMU no. 55019, Class 142 DMU 142006 and Class 143 DMUs 143606 and 143607 and will also assist with the acquisition of expertise, skilled volunteers and spares parts for the railway. We are a sub-group of the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway Co. Ltd. - Registered charity no. 1087985.

The group currently contains an enthusiastic group of like minded individuals with a passion for railways and in particular, diesel multiple units. We are seeking individuals to assist us with returning these trains to their former glory and to keep them running for many years to come. We will need a regular income to provide the materials required to restore and keep the trains running. Therefore, all funds raised by the South Wales Railcar Group will be used towards the restoration, upkeep and continued operation of the units.

The The South Wales Railcar Group are in full swing at Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway - Cynheidre Heritage Project today as 143 612 makes it's preservation debut at 11.15am today at the railway's gala weekend. It will also be in action tomorrow. Thanks to Vale of Berkeley Railway for allowing to use it and for working so hard to get it ready in time.

📣 Announcement - Volunteers get FREE membership in 2023!

With everyone feeling the pinch of the current economic crisis, it is fair to say that nobody has as much free cash as they used to have. As a result, we believe that when you volunteer you should not be expected to pay a membership fee to get started. Therefore, we have made the decision to make membership free to all active volunteers, by freezing the requirement to pay a membership fee for the whole of 2023.

In order to grow further in 2023 and beyond we need more volunteers for a range of tasks. These include helping to develop the site through gardening, painting, decorating and general DIY through helping to restore and run the trains and supporting with paperwork and tasks that can be completed from your home.

After 6 months of work by the SWRG, Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway - Cynheidre Heritage Project and Vale of Berkeley Railway, 143612 today made its first movements in preservation, after carrying out a successful test run over the running line. The unit will now need to undergo a full set of checks before entering service. We will advise when we expect it to run in service for the first time.

This weekend is the last chance during 2022 to have a ride behind 142006 on a normal running day at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway - Cynheidre Heritage Project

Our final regular running day of 2022 will take place this Saturday 10th September with 142006 in service all day.
