IKT Congress 2026 Visual Recap

Visit to Gallerie d’Italia, Turin.

As part of the Congress programme, IKT delegates visited Gallerie d’Italia, Turin, for two exhibitions engaging with urgent questions of climate, displacement, memory and emotional experience.

“Nick Brandt. The Day May Break” is a project launched in 2020, presented through around 60 works divided into four chapters. The series portrays people and animals affected by climate change, environmental decline and devastation, highlighting the profoundly disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on the world’s most vulnerable populations.
The exhibition at Gallerie d’Italia, Turin, curated by Arianna Rinaldo, is the first to present all four chapters of The Day May Break together.

Delegates also visited “Diana Markosian. Replaced”, curated by Brandei Estes and presented as part of EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival. Through photography and an immersive film installation, Markosian reflects on the emotional afterlife of love, exploring attachment, separation, memory and the disorientation that follows the end of a relationship.

Both exhibitions are on view until 6 September 2026 at Gallerie d’Italia, Turin. We highly recommend a visit if you are in Turin.

Thank you to Gallerie d’Italia for welcoming IKT delegates.

A Material Called Earth is an exhibition project, curated by IKT Member Sylvie Fortin, that approaches art as a collective experience in constant transformation. Its first chapter, Volume 1: The Life of Corners, is a textile installation by Celina Eceiza, conceived especially for the Lee-Chin Family Gallery at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Canada.

Through hand-dyed, sewn and embroidered textiles, alongside large-scale drawings that extend across walls, floors and ceilings, the installation creates a welcoming and immersive environment. Visitors are invited to move through the work, inhabit it and pause within it.

The project unfolds as a space of relationships and connections. It challenges the idea of the artist as a solitary figure and places emphasis on collaboration, bringing together artists and audiences within a shared creative process.

On view until 16 August 2026

“Curating today means inhabiting a state of constant movement. It is no longer a fixed discipline but an evolving ecology of relations, narratives, encounters, and forms of care.” - .margaritopoulou

In the latest IKT Spotlight interview, Valentini Margaritopoulou reflects on her curatorial practice, her path into curating, and the role of the curator today.

Drawing on her background in art history, museum studies and cultural heritage, Valentini speaks about the importance of research, collaboration and public engagement. Her practice moves across exhibitions, performance, murals, public interventions and interdisciplinary projects, with a strong focus on creating spaces for dialogue, participation and emotional connection.

In the interview, she also discusses the influence of artists on her work, the relationship between art and public space, and the idea of curating as a living conversation rather than a fixed statement.

IKT Congress 2026 Visual Recap

Visit to Fondazione Merz to see “GAZA, the future has an ancient heart. Materials and memories of the Mediterranean.”

Presented by Fondazione Merz, Museo Egizio di Torino and MAH, Musée d’art et d’histoire of Geneva, the exhibition brings archaeology and contemporary art into dialogue to reflect on the historical and cultural depth of Gaza, a millennial crossroads of trade, cultures and beliefs.

Through archaeological finds dating from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman period, contemporary works by Palestinian and international artists, and photographs from the UNRWA archive, the exhibition looks beyond the present moment to consider Gaza as a place of memory, identity, heritage and future.

The visit invited reflection on the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage threatened by war and oblivion, and on the communities whose histories, lives and cultural inheritance are held within it.

The exhibition is on view until 27 September 2026. We highly recommend a visit if you are in Turin!

Thank you to Fondazione Merz for welcoming IKT members.
