Surprise happenings at the Trust!!

Passing by our aviaries one morning, one of our volunteers was more than a little surprised to see a newly hatched owlet staring back at them! They had expected our Great Horned Owls, Douglas and Danielle to be the only occupants!

Largely due to their age, parenthood wasn't thought to have been on the agenda for these two. But clearly, it's a case of never say never!

Their latest offspring is around two weeks old now and thriving. They are great parents if a little shell shocked by the new arrival!

We are very excited to share this fantastic artwork kindly created for us by Rhiannon at ASJ toys and more personalised gifts . She was inspired to create the wonderful piece after visiting the Trust whilst on holiday in North Wales. It definitely captures the spirit of our beautiful owls and we love it!

Valentine's Day is approaching and our romantic Kookaburras, Bruce and Sheila, are ready to celebrate. It wasn't always that way of course. The arrival of Bruce into Sheila's domain really put her beak out of joint. She was extremely jealous of, what to her, was Bruce's far better aviary. It was exactly the same as hers but, in a rage, she broke her swing and damaged her toys and perches.

Bruce clearly admired this feisty lady and began trying to woo her. After weeks of giving him the cold shoulder, Sheila decided that he was quite the catch. We removed the aviary partition and the rest is history. They now live in near perfect harmony, the only competition between them being who can cackle the loudest!
