Llandudno RNLI Launches Following Report of Angler in Difficulty

Llandudno RNLI's inshore lifeboat launched on Sunday 21 June following reports that a rock angler may have fallen into the sea near the Zig Zags area on the north-eastern side of the Great Orme.

HM Coastguard requested the launch after receiving a report from a concerned member of the public who believed an angler had entered the water. Due to limited information and concerns that the casualty may have fallen from the cliffs and sustained injuries, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 336 was also tasked.

The volunteer lifeboat crew launched immediately and made their way to the scene. On arrival, they located and spoke with the anglers involved.

It was quickly established that one of the anglers had entered the water deliberately for a short time before safely returning ashore and continuing to fish. No assistance was required.

The incident was therefore classified as a false alarm with good intent.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support our Llandudno RNLI Dog Walk on Sunday 14 June. It was a fantastic day, enjoyed by all on two legs and four!

We were delighted to see such a great turnout, with dogs and their owners joining us for a walk along the promenade while helping to raise funds for the RNLI's lifesaving work.

Events such as these are only possible thanks to the support of our local community, and we would like to thank everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, or helped organise the event. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, as well as some new ones, coming together in support of the RNLI.

As well as bringing dog owners together, the event provided an opportunity to share important safety advice for anyone enjoying the coast with their four-legged friends. While most walks pass without incident, every year the RNLI and Coastguard respond to emergencies involving dogs and their owners around the coastline.

Recent tragic incidents have shown that many dog owners get into difficulty when attempting to rescue their pet. The RNLI's advice is simple: if your dog gets into trouble in the water, on mud, or on steep ground, do not enter the water or attempt a rescue yourself.

Move to a safe location where your dog can reach you, call them, and if you remain concerned, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

When walking with your dog near the coast, remember to:
• Plan your route and check the weather forecast and tide times.
• Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Keep your dog on a lead near cliff edges and other hazardous areas.
• Never enter the water, mud, or dangerous terrain to rescue your dog.

If you find yourself in the water unexpectedly, remember to Float to Live. Tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax, and try to control your breathing. Spread your arms and legs to help you stay afloat. Once your breathing is under control, call for help or swim to safety.

Llandudno RNLI Volunteers Pass Navigator Assessments

Llandudno RNLI is celebrating the achievements of volunteer crew members Paul Rynn and Simon Adey-Davies following a successful day of operational assessments.

Paul has qualified as an Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) Navigator, while Simon has qualified as an All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) Navigator. Both assessments were conducted by Coastal Lifeboat Trainer Simon Bunting.

The role of an RNLI Navigator is to support the coxswain or helm by providing accurate navigational information, maintaining situational awareness, identifying hazards, planning safe routes, and assisting with the effective coordination of search and rescue operations.

As part of their pass-out, Paul and Simon completed comprehensive assessments of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This included navigation policy and procedures, collision regulations, local knowledge, route planning, search and rescue navigation, electronic navigation systems, search planning, and casualty location techniques. Throughout the assessment, they were required to demonstrate sound decision-making, interpret tidal and environmental conditions, safely plan and execute routes, and confidently support the lifeboat commanders in a range of realistic operational scenarios.

The navigator is a key operational role within the RNLI, helping to ensure lifeboat crews can operate safely and effectively in all conditions while responding to those in need at sea.

On 16 May, Llandudno’s promenade was transformed into a spectacular display of Volkswagens as a large number of VW cars and camper vans gathered for North Wales Dubberz’s annual charity event, Dubz on the Prom. The impressive line-up along the seafront attracted plenty of attention and created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day.

The event was held in support of Llandudno RNLI, raising vital funds for the charity. Later that day, participants and members visited the lifeboat station for a tour and proudly presented a generous donation of £1,774, raised during the event.

Llandudno RNLI Launches to Multiple Incidents

On Monday 25 May at 6:28pm, Llandudno’s inshore lifeboat launched following reports of two people in the water off Llandudno Pier who were believed to be drifting further out to sea.

The lifeboat, with four volunteer crew on board, made best speed to the reported location and immediately began searching the area on arrival. Nothing could initially be seen, so the crew carried out a number of search patterns around the pier and surrounding bay.

While the search was ongoing, further reports were received of six people cut off by the tide on the old beach to the west of the pier, along with a family of four reported to be in difficulty near Pigeon’s Cave. The lifeboat temporarily diverted from the search to assess the situation and advise those involved of the rapidly incoming tide. The casualties were assisted away from the affected areas and guided to safety before being further advised by Llandudno Coastguard.

Following this, the inshore lifeboat resumed its search operation alongside HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 336. After an extensive search of the area, with nothing found, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at 9:15pm.
