Wilba 🍃 Creating, protecting & connecting habitats 🍃

Working with farmers & landowners to encourage and conserve nature.

The understory has to be one of the most magical types of habitat. ✨

Several of our projects have involved fencing off pockets of existing woodland to grazing, enabling the understory to grow.

This high biodiversity habitat supports many pollinating insects, amphibians and birds as well as being a nursery where new saplings grow, ensuring the future survival of the woodland. 🌱

It's always good to make connections with people as well as habitat!

Thinking about flying the nest but not ready to face current interest rates or give up on mum's meals!

This Blue tit family have made a nest in Alice's log shed and both mum and dad have been busy flying back and forth with a constant supply of food. 🐛

It's great to see carpets of bluebells in so many of our habitat projects at this time of year.

This iconic and delicate woodland flower provides an early source of nectar for several species of woodland butterflies, bees and hoverflies.

All farms have areas of unproductive land. Steep, rocky hillside, gorges, ravines or boggy grassland. Simply fencing it off is a win for everyone ...

Stock doesn't get stuck and habitat doesn't get gobbled!

Bracken Gorge is a project that has done exactly that. 3,000 sqm of unusable land on a working farm in Mid Wales. A steep ravine running between two fields. A stream runs down through the bottom of the gorge, which over the years has cut away deep into the earth.

We worked with a local contractor to have the area fenced off and ensure that livestock can no longer access the area all year round.

This summer we will start bashing the bracken and then we will plant trees to regenerate this area back into a beneficial habitat. 🌱

Sun dappled through leaves, bird song and wild flowers for days 👌

Red campion, bluebells, cowslips, cow parsley, greater stitchwort.

British nature at its best and reminding us why we do what we do!

🌱 Proper habitat for a diverse range of species.

🚜 On working farms here in Mid Wales.

Not bad for a small non-profit organisation taking action on our own.

A great success! 🌱

We carried out our 12 month site visit to the Llanbister: Hedgerow Connections Project and are pleased to report that the saplings are looking very healthy with a success rate of over 90%!

Some work to carry out in the New Year to remove the grass from inside the guards but overall a very successful fist year for this project.
