The Calon Cymru Network is stopping operations, due to retirements. Thank you to all who have visited this page over the years. The names may change, but the work itself will continue.

More than 30 people came along to our drop-in day at Llanwrda School yesterday, March 8th, 2pm to 8pm, for an update on our affordable housing plans. Thank you to Dylan Roberts and colleague Jo from Bro Myrddin Housing Association, Matt Miller from Carmarthenshire County Council and Ceri Murphy from Cwmpas for being there to answer questions. Thanks also to the trustees who helped on the day and beforehand, and of course to the funders who are supporting the work. Ymlaen!

We have been rather quiet lately, but there is no shortage of issues affecting communities in Mid Wales. We are hoping to find people under 50 who would like to join Calon Cymru Network and take the lead in developing its work. Promotion for a development of 44 new homes near Newtown, Powys: "Oil fired central heating will be installed with extensive floor, wall and loft insulation and a solar roof." Why oil, now?

We are starting a Friends of Calon Cymru Network group, no subscription, to try and expand the work we do. We will be pressing for the Heart of Wales line to be devolved to Wales, and are continuing our input to rural housing policy. We will be lobbying for power transmission cables to be underground in the maximum number of locations (as in Germany!) We also hope that the Powys Teaching Health Board will start talking once again to the community land trust created to make improved use of the Bronllys Hospital site.
Other ideas welcome.

Our annual meeting will be on Wednesday June 7th in The Pod, Llandovery, at 11am. The Pod is opposite the Castle Hotel entrance to the town car park, where parking is free Mondays to Wednesdays 10am to 2pm. We have sent a letter to GreenGen Cymru opposing their pylon plans. In Germany now the presumption is that all new electricity transmission lines are underground; we should be the same.
