Every day at S.M.I.L.E., we support children, young people, adults and families across West Lothian. We train future counsellors, deliver mental health education, provide counselling services and create spaces where people feel heard, valued and supported.

Now we're looking for someone special to join our team.

💜Job Description: Administrative Assistant (Part-Time)
💜Reports To: Training Manager and Clinical Lead
💜Hours: 20 Hours per Week: (Mon – Friday 10am – 2pm) (10 hours supporting the Training Team and 10 hours supporting the HUB Counselling Service)

Here's a question. When was the last time someone left your organisation because they couldn't do the job?

Which is why we're looking to speak with local organisations interested in developing the human skills that sit behind every successful team.

We spend a lot of time teaching children maths, English and how to pass exams.

But how often do we teach emotional resilience?
How to cope with discomfort?
How to handle rejection, conflict, uncertainty or failure?
More professionals are now talking about the long-term impact of overprotective parenting, constant reassurance, lack of boundaries, and rescuing people from difficult emotions too quickly.

And we’re starting to see the effects everywhere.

In schools.
In relationships.
In workplaces.
In leadership.

People struggling with confidence, difficult conversations, emotional regulation, criticism, anxiety, people-pleasing, burnout and self-worth.

Maybe the real “life skills” conversation should start there.

Because eventually those anxious children become anxious adults.
And anxious adults become overwhelmed partners, colleagues, managers, parents and leaders.

Our COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills starts this August.

Not to turn people into therapists overnight. But to help people understand themselves, communicate better, build healthier relationships and support others more effectively.

Honestly? The world could probably do with a bit more of this.

Ahead of the upcoming bank holiday, we’d like to let everyone we support know that the S.M.I.L.E. Counselling office will be closed on Monday 25th May.

The CYP Diploma is now being delivered fully online, making it accessible regardless of location and much easier to commit to alongside work and other responsibilities.

The course will run as:
• 5 weekends (one per month)
• Delivered live via Zoom
• September 2026 – January 2027
Dates:
Weekend 1 – 12th & 13th September
Weekend 2 – 10th & 11th October
Weekend 3 – 14th & 15th November
Weekend 4 – 12th & 13th December
Weekend 5 – 16th & 17th January

The course is a postgraduate level SQA customised award, developed in collaboration with S.M.I.L.E., and recognised by professional bodies such as COSCA.

This format allows you to:
• join from anywhere (no travel required)
• spread the learning over manageable monthly weekends
• complete the course alongside existing commitments
