A Message from the Board of Craigsfarm Community Hub
In order to address the recent confusion, the Board of Craigsfarm would like to take this opportunity to inform all those we welcome at Craigsfarm that since 2023, Management, the Board, and staff have been working tirelessly to bring Craigsfarm back from the brink of insolvency.
The last few years have been a particularly difficult time for Craigsfarm, and the doors almost had to close in July 2023.
Fortunately, a new Management Team was put in place at that time, and this team has worked with dedication to stabilise and rebuild Craigsfarm.
The Café Lease Decision
At the end of 2025, we took the difficult decision to lease the café to a private tenant, an independent business. Ending this lease was also a difficult decision for both the Board and Management, but we firmly believe it is in the best interest of Craigsfarm.
The café space will remain in existence and will always be used as a space of welcome for all, as it always was under Craigsfarm management. Everyone will continue to be welcome, regardless of whether they are using the café or not.
Our Goal: Looking After Craigsfarm
Craigsfarm is an independent Scottish registered charity and is dependent on room hire and tenancies to maintain the facility.
The Manager has raised funding to the tune of almost £800,000 over the last few years. Thanks to this, Craigsfarm Community Hub remains open.
This funding has allowed the highly acclaimed Community Health & Wellbeing Programme and many mental health services to be offered FREE to residents of Craigshill and neighbouring areas.
Over 3,000 people have received FREE mental health support, and our reputation as a pioneering community‑based mental health service is now recognised throughout West Lothian.
We have also instigated programmes that fill gaps in service provision in West Lothian, including trauma support and ADHD/Autism support for adults.
In addition, we have built strong collaborative partnerships with local charities such as Andy’s Man Club and The Bridge, as well as Edinburgh University.
We firmly believe that together we are stronger and can pool our individual strengths to more comprehensively support communities that are struggling.
Our Commitment
Throughout this journey, the Board and Management have had to take difficult and often distressing decisions. But the one constant has always been to operate and manage in the best interest of Craigsfarm.
We would therefore seek to reassure all that we will continue to navigate this journey with Craigsfarm’s welfare always at the forefront of our decision‑making.
Craigsfarm has, and always will be, a welcoming and safe space for visitors throughout West Lothian:
•A melting pot of people, ideas, and expression;
•A bastion of hope and healing for many;
• A place where kindness, understanding, and regard manifest in everything we do.
We were therefore shocked to see the xenophobia, misogyny, and threats of violence towards staff that were shared on social media.
As a peaceful community, there is no place for this in Craigsfarm.
Understandably, we all have opinions and emotions, but we hope that we can disagree agreeably and moderate how we express our disappointment or disagreement.
We respectfully ask our community not to be influenced by false rumours or misleading claims.
Craigsfarm’s decisions are guided solely by governance steeped in the Constitution, safety, and the long‑term wellbeing of the Craigsfarm community.
We are grateful for your ongoing support.
