The Scottish sun is shining down on the immaculate greens of Haggs Castle Golf Club, as we welcome 22 teams to the Lintel Trust Annual Golf Day, completely sold out for its 29th incredible year!

For nearly three decades, this event has been the collaborative driver of the Lintel Trust Small Grants Fund, historically raising upwards of £8,000 to be infused into local community groups and charities across Scotland that address a variety of community needs.

Each player, sponsor, and volunteer joining us today, is helping us support housing community projects that tackle social isolation, promote digital participation, encourage people to live in their own homes and assist people moving from homelessness into a secure and sustainable tenancy.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and commitment of everyone involved, and can't wait to see what happens on the course today.

We'll be sharing updates from the course throughout the day, so keep an eye on your feed! 💜 👇

We’re recruiting new Trustees to join the Lintel Trust board!

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to contribute your skills and experience, this is an opportunity to help shape work that supports people and communities across Scotland.

Lintel Trust funds community-led projects that help people living in social housing to thrive. As a small charity with a clear ambition, we focus on building stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive communities.

We're keen to bring new voices and perspectives onto our board.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are:

🔸 Passionate about communities and social justice
🔸 Experienced in areas such as financial management/income generation.

You don’t need previous board experience, we’re looking for people who are motivated to contribute, ask questions, and support good decision-making.

As a Trustee, you will:
✔ Help shape our strategic direction
✔ Strengthen governance and oversight
✔ Support projects tackling social isolation, financial wellbeing, and community resilience

We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of the communities we serve, and from those currently under-represented in governance roles.

Hawthorn Housing Cooperative reaches major recycling milestone

This week, Lintel Trust met with Committee members of Hawthorn Housing Cooperative to celebrate a significant early success in its participation in the Reduce, ReUse and Recycle Project, diverting 2.5 tonnes of textile waste away from landfill.
What makes this achievement particularly impressive is the speed at which it has been reached. The Cooperative only joined the Reduce, ReUse and Recycle Project in the middle of last year, yet in just a short period of time residents and staff have worked together to establish a strong culture of reuse and responsible disposal of unwanted clothing and textiles.

Through the commitment of tenants and the wider community, items that might previously have been thrown away have instead been collected, reused and recycled, giving them a second life and significantly reducing their environmental impact. The milestone demonstrates how quickly meaningful change can happen when people are supported to take practical action at a local level.

In recognition of this achievement, Lintel Trust awarded Hawthorn Housing Cooperative a £500 grant. True to the spirit of the project, the funding was allocated using a participatory budgeting approach, with residents voting on how the money should be spent. The community chose to use the grant to support World Cup celebrations, reflecting and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Hawthorn’s tenants.

The decision highlights how environmental action can go hand in hand with strengthening community connections. By combining sustainability with social activities, the project is helping to build pride, inclusion and shared purpose alongside reducing waste.

Lintel Trust is delighted to see the progress made by Hawthorn Housing Cooperative in such a short timeframe and commends the dedication of residents, Committee members and staff who have made this possible.

This milestone shows what can be achieved when communities are given the tools, resources and voice to shape their own initiatives. Hawthorn’s success is a strong example of community power in action - delivering environmental benefits while bringing people together around a common goal.

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Cassiltoun Housing Association to celebrate something pretty special, the awarding of their third grant as part of our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Project.

What started as a commitment to doing things a little greener has grown into a powerful example of what community-led action can achieve. From encouraging recycling locally to finding creative ways to reuse materials, their dedication to sustainability in Castlemilk continues to shine.

Last year, we were delighted to award Cassiltoun an additional £500 to support their efforts. Combing this grant, they now have a £1,000 grant available through their Love Castlemilk Live Castlemilk participatory budgeting programme and that’s where the story gets even bigger.

Because this isn’t just about one organisation. It’s about an entire community.

Thanks to the incredible support of additional funders there is now an amazing £43,000 available to fund community ideas across Castlemilk.

And the most powerful part?

Every eligible application will go out to the people of Castlemilk - giving local residents the chance to choose which ideas they want to see brought to life.

It’s participatory budgeting in action. Real decisions. Real voices. Real impact.

If you’ve been sitting on an idea whether it’s environmental, creative, community-focused or something completely new now is the time to take that step and get in touch with Cassiltoun Housing Association.

🗓 Applications close Friday 27th February at 4pm.

We’re so proud to see organisations like Cassiltoun leading by example, and we’re even more excited to see what the wider community comes forward with next.

♻️ Reduce, ReUse & Recycle – Making a Real Difference Across Glasgow ♻️

We’re proud to share the impact of Lintel Trust’s Reduce, ReUse & Recycle project!

Housing communities across Glasgow have come together to divert over 40 tonnes of textile waste from landfill – an incredible achievement that highlights the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

Through our partnership with Clyde Recycling Ltd, communities taking part in the project can earn funding for what they care about most. For every 2.5 tonnes of textiles collected, a £500 grant is awarded and allocated using a participatory budgeting approach – ensuring local people decide how the money is spent.

Examples of previous grants have supported:

✅ Employability programmes

✅ Community meal provision

✅ Essential electrical repairs to community kitchens

These outcomes show how environmental action can directly strengthen communities and improve lives.

🏘️ Housing associations and co-operatives interested in getting involved or finding out more about the project are encouraged to get in touch with us to learn how your community can take part.
