🧥Winter Clothing Appeal 🧥

As the colder months approach, hundreds of children across West Lothian will need warm winter clothing to help them thrive. A warm jacket is more than just a coat. It helps a child walk to school comfortably, play outside with friends, join in school activities and focus on learning without being distracted by cold, damp clothes.

Over the next 3 months, we expect 500+ requests for winter jackets. With your support, we can make sure every child has the winter clothing they need. Here’s how you can help:

1️⃣ Become a sponsor: Purchase a brand-new jacket or a winter clothing pack for a specific child. When a referral is received, we'll contact you with the details and you can shop for that child directly. Sign up here: https://bit.ly/4yYvlHe 🧥

2️⃣ Buy a jacket: If sponsorship isn’t for you, simply buy a warm jacket (4-12 years old as these are most in demand) and donate it. These jackets will be issued as referrals come in. 🧥

3️⃣ Make a monetary donation: If time is short, donate online and we’ll buy a winter jacket on your behalf. We estimate each jacket costs around £25, but every single contribution, no matter the amount, helps keep a child warm this winter. Donate here: https://bit.ly/3xYwaCS 💷

RESIDENTS who repeatedly put out contaminated bins may have uplifts temporarily restricted or suspended under updated Recycling and Waste Service Standards set to be adopted by West Lothian Council.
However, following collection, operatives will:
- Return containers to within one refuse collection vehicle length of the original collection point
- Ensure bins are placed neatly trying not to obstruct access to driveways or pedestrian routes
It's also planned to reduce the current 30-minute booking slot to 15 minutes at West Lothian's Community Recycling Centres. Tomorrow's meeting of the council's Executive Committee will be advised that the change will bring West Lothian in line with surrounding local authorities.
The updated service standards will also mean that, when collecting recycling, crews will visually check containers for contamination and provide feedback to residents where contamination is identified.
Replacement bins will be charged for, except where damage is caused by council operations or the bin falls into the collection vehicle.
Tomorrow's meeting of the Executive Committee will be asked to note the new Customer Service Standards, which align to the current Scottish Governments Household Waste Recycling Code of Practice.

We are currently in attendance at a fire involving a large quantity of scrap metal within a recycling plant in Linlithgow.

Crews are working to extinguish the fire close to the A706 road.

In the meantime, people living nearby are asked to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid the area where possible.
