State Lies and Cover-Ups: The Demand for a Duty of Candour

📍 Liverpool City Region Authority, 1 Mann Island, L3 1BP
🗓️ Monday 28 September
⏰ 17:30-19:00pm

I am hosting a powerful panel discussion at Labour Party Conference with the APPG on Miscarriages of Justice bringing together campaigners, survivors and families who have spent decades fighting for truth and justice in the face of state cover-ups and institutional wrongdoing.

We will be hearing from representatives connected to:

- Hillsborough Law Now
- Cammell Laird 37
- Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign
- Birmingham 4
- Chinese Seafarers Campaign
- Nuclear Test Veterans
- Police Spies Out of Lives

Each of the speaker’s stories expose a common thread: when institutions fail to tell the truth, ordinary people and communities are left to bear the consequences.

This event will explore why a statutory duty of candour is essential to ensuring honesty, transparency and accountability across public bodies, and how it can help prevent future injustices.
