Promoting a positive lifestyle and empowering young people to raise their aspirations and develop the emotional resiliency to overcome disadvantage.

Episode 10. The Shift

By the final night, the building was full again. Old and new faces packed out The Linacre to bear witness as the present became the past and moments became memories.

A SZN finale, our shortest season yet, a story of identity and rebellion. The unauthorised biography of a youth movement, generated by AI, but re-claimed and retold by the very PEOPLE it failed to capture.

People who built this place... People who called it home…. People who had their names etched on the walls and PEOPLE who broke the fourth wall down!

It was people who had been here since the first crack in the glasses and people who had witnessed it all. In just ten weeks, what started in the black depths of The Void had bled through to the walls and left an indelible mark on everything it had touched. VIBE as we knew it has changed. The Shift marks a new era and a new beginning.

The glasses were not needed anymore. At first they helped Kai to see what everyone else would eventually feel. The RED and blue split that divided VIBE had been healed. The parallel realms crossed by Kenny and Casey now existed in one shared VIBE Universe. The Void, once feared for its darkness and difference, was now a beacon of energy, emitting what it means to be a part of VIBE.

Ella made her SZN 7 debut and stepped into the night like she had never been away. A leader. Not trying to take over the room. Just there, helping, guiding the story to its natural conclusion.

Another reminder that VIBE doesn’t stop when one story ends, it grows. People come and people go. People find VIBE when they need it most.

And then the BBC arrived. A fitting time to document what had been taking place inside these Linacre walls. The world outside had started asking questions about young people again. The government announced plans to ban social media for under-16’s. Everywhere you looked, adults on screens and in headlines, were deciding what young people need without always stopping to listen to what young people are trying to say.

Episode 9. It’s VIBE PUNK!

After Pride, something had to break. Not because it was ruined, BECAUSE IT WAS READY.

The colours had come back, the binary had scattered. The door had literally fallen off its hinges.

PUNK was here and VIBE stopped asking for permission.

Paul stood at the door with a red mohawk and tattooed knuckles, his sleeveless denim battle jacket adorned with symbols of the shift. In eight years he had welcomed over a thousand young people across that threshold and seen the VIBE movement grow. Last night he stood as a monument to rebellions past, the ageing author of a story written by outcast youth.

A crowd of ripped fabric and painted faces entered the building. VIBE logos held together with safety pins. A new generation of walking protest posters, refusing to stay neat and fit what society tells them to be.

In the garden, Leo won PUNK POP, bursting balloons with punk faces on them like he was taking out every version of VIBE that had tried to stay too tidy. Bang, bang, bang. The piercing sound of revolution.

Downstairs, The Void was alive again. Misty, Skye and Tia stepped into it for a photoshoot, standing in the room that had watched all season like they were not scared of being seen by it anymore.

Alfie was there too, camera in hand, capturing the night from inside the story.

The basement of The Linacre had held crowds of people since the 1800s. For years, adults had painted over things. Covering marks and cleaning surfaces to keep the building presentable.

But on VIBE PUNK, the paint markers were passed down. Paul handed over the markers to the young people. It was their time to make a mark. The walls became full with names, symbols, colours. Proof. A rebellion in permanent ink. The kind you can’t pack away at the end of the night.

Amongst the graffiti someone wrote the words “NO MORE AI” in purple spray paint. Maybe that was part of the shift too. At the start of the season the social media posts looked like AI slop. Too clean, too far away from the young people it was meant to represent. Over the weeks the AI started to glitch and reality started pushing through. Real faces, real heat, real voices. “NO M

Ep.8 Pride SZN

After a week of heat and waiting, the colours came back to VIBE. Pride SZN finally rolled down Linacre Lane, a bright front of glitter, flags and noise. This was a pressure change, a warning and a promise.

For weeks, VIBE had been split by colour, RED and blue forces, each trying to shape VIBE in its own image. A season of wristbands, choices and divides. But Pride didn’t come to choose between them. Pride came to ruin the argument. To scatter the binary. It turned the whole building into proof that nobody has to be just one thing. You can be loud and still need softness, you can be quiet and still have fire inside you, you can dance like everyone is watching and still long for someone to see the part of you that is scared. For the first time the colours came together.

The building started to fill with the nervous and the brave. Even Kai, who always observed, was tonight immersed in a culture of togetherness. Pride wasn’t about labels being forced onto people, it was about people being free to choose their own truth. In this community lies an energy and a place where all are welcomed and accepted. At VIBE you can wear glitter like armour and still be seen underneath it. For Leo and Lottie, this marked their “VIBE-iversary”, from shy Year 7s a year ago, they now embodied everything that it meant to be VIBE. Gliding through the night like they had been carrying purple light in their pockets all along.

Downstairs, The Void was not waiting behind hazard tape. The black room at the back of the basement, a place that had watched all season, had changed. No longer devoid of light, it was now drenched in colour. The thing that had been feared became the place everyone wanted to stand. No longer hidden and sealed off, people flocked to take photos in The Void.

Maybe that was the real shift. Not destroying The Void or escaping it, but transforming it.

The sounds of singing and joy filled the building. In the lounge, Meg from GYRO gave support to those who needed it. Anna returned too, no longer as the Anna from old VIBE stories, but in her new role with Smoke Free Sefton. We were also visited by Lauren from Pride in Place,

Episode 7. Heatwave

Pride SZN was meant to come next, like a powerful wind of change converging across Bootle. A bright pressure rolling down Linacre Lane, sweeping up colour and hope as it grew. A glittering front of defiance, and a weather warning for anyone who thought the world had to stay split in two.

But the air outside VIBE was dry. The tarmac streets bubbled & the pavement scorched the feet of those who sought sanctuary at The Linacre. The heat pressed itself against the windows & cracked the paint around the door.

Down in The Void, the black walls absorbed the heat as the hazard tape curled at the edges.

Pride on the horizon, gathered itself like thunder. But in the path of the storm lay a tinderbox, charged not only by the heat, but from the lines people kept drawing through the middle of everything. Us or them, in or out, red or blue.

A world so ready to split that even colour can feel like a SPARK. A VIBE Universe, still wrestling with it’s identity, ready to forget about red and blue and become everything at once.

But not yet.

As VIBE continued to pause, a small group gathered. Eight young people with a vision of a better tomorrow. They became the VIBE Core.

They gathered around the table, leaning over the summer like it was a map. The future of VIBE no longer lay in the hands of its original authors. For the story to continue, a new path would have to be forged.

In these hopeful words written down while the building held its breath, the seeds of tomorrow were planted.

It didn’t look like rebellion. There was no banging on tables or big speeches, just young people deciding what happens next.

Which might be the most rebellious thing so far. Because in a world that loves putting people in boxes, VIBE has always been messier than that. You can be the loud one and still need somewhere quiet. You can wear the mask and still want people to see your face. You can choose a side and still wonder what’s behind the door.

Pride SZN didn’t disappear, it waited in the heat. The colours didn’t fade, they gathered themselves.

This week, while the building sweated and the streets argued about lines, VIBE solidified its Core.

This week there was no queue down Linacre Lane. There was no separation of RED and blue, no wristbands, no labels.

VIBE paused, but The Shift didn’t.

The Linacre was quiet, but it didn’t feel empty. The bar still remembered RED. The Hideout still held the calm of blue, the 3D glasses lay dormant on a shelf.

The basement walls held the tremors of basslines and the Pink Palace carried the echoes of conversations past. The building held the ghosts of seasons past.

And way back, far beyond the gym, The Void waited in a cocoon of hazard tape. Just watching.

Last week, VIBE split in two. Twin realms of Red and Blue crashed against one another. At first it felt exciting, like choosing a team or stepping into your own version of VIBE.

But then it started to feel strange. Friends waving across the divide. People labelled as colours, wanting through doors they weren’t allowed to open.

Blue felt calm for some, but like a cage for others.

RED felt powerful, but maybe only if you had the mask on.

The clowns knew that. Painted smiles. Loud energy. Confidence with a face on.

Maybe that’s what RED does sometimes. It gives you power, but asks you to perform for it.

And maybe blue is what happens after. The pause. The breath.

The bit where you ask yourself if you were choosing a side… or just choosing the version of you that felt safest.

Because the world loves a split. Black or white, this or that, us or them, red or blue.

A binary.

But VIBE has never really worked like that. You can be loud in the bar and quiet upstairs.

You can dance in the basement & make art in the lounge.

You can wear the mask & still want people to see underneath it.

The travellers proved it. The door looked solid, but it wasn’t.

In that act of defiance, a rebellion was born. Not smashing things or shouting louder, but refusing to be reduced.

Because maybe choosing sides was never the point.

Maybe the point was realising you could be more than one thing. Even if that sounds like a beautiful cliché.

This week, our community wrestled with its identity, as VIBE paused.

Some voices tried to draw lines, others marched with love.

Ep5. RED OR blue

VIBE split in two.

A RED sign on the front door. A blue sign on the gate. Two queues snaked down Linacre Lane as friends waved across the divide with nervous anticipation.

53 people chose blue, 40 chose RED.

Wristbands on. Choice made.

A locked door between the pool room and the hall divided The Linacre.

On the blue side Keeley taught us how to make Jewellery and Tabby helped to create a piece of artwork. Polaroids caught moments before they vanished. Luke chose blue, even when his friends all went RED. He was courage in a sea of blue, he had come so far.

On the RED side, the bar became a Nerf range, the lounge hosted volleyball and the basement was charged with games and challenges. A wild game of charades unfolded in The Pink Palace.

The clowns multiplied again… Now there were ten (all in RED, of course).

In blue, Tommy, Maisie and Jessica wanted out. RED was just behind the door. Close enough to hear. Impossible to reach.

Both realms were different, yet both still felt like VIBE. VIBE existed in two places at once.

Kenny & Cacey from SZN 4 returned. They chose blue but they saw the world differently. Kai pointed to two pairs of 3D glasses on a shelf in The Hideout. When they put them on the room changed.

Kenny reached out to touch the door between the realms. Her hand went through the door. Cacey jumped through, her pink hair glowing purple through the lenses. They crossed into RED like ghosts. No one could see them.

In the gym, they threw balls into and watched them float through the air but no one noticed.

Then they slipped back to blue and laughed as they threw the glasses through the divide.

“Where have they been?!” Tommy shouted. No one knew.

In RED, Nico and Iana found the glasses and tried them on. They crossed over into blue. They visited the different rooms, tried a blue slush and even took a photograph on the polaroid camera as proof that they had travelled.

The divide was real, but it wasn’t solid. On both sides there were murmurs of rebellion.

We shall not be labelled. We shouldn’t have to choose.

Last night… VIBE existed in two places at once.
