☀️⚾ What a fantastic day of Blind Baseball in Manchester for the Liverpool Blind Trojans!

Playing in glorious sunshine, the team produced some outstanding performances and came away with three wins from four games, thanks to excellent teamwork, communication, determination and support throughout the day.

🏆 Manchester 0-1 LiverpoolWe got off to the perfect start with a hard-fought victory. Andrew scored the winning run whilst also recording his first-ever defensive assist for the Trojans. The video captures the winning moment, with Jimmy driving a superb hit into the field to bring Andrew all the way home and secure the victory.

🏆 Liverpool 3-2 SheffieldA real thriller and arguably the game of the day! Liverpool raced into a 3-0 lead through two runs from Matt and one from David. Sheffield battled back to make it 3-2 and looked set to level the score, but with the pressure on, Andrew fielded the ball and made the throw to second base, where Jamie completed the catch to record the final out and secure the victory for the Trojans. The moment the catch was made, the whole team erupted in celebration across the field. It was a fantastic moment and a great example of the teamwork, determination and spirit that runs through the Liverpool Trojans.

❌ Liverpool 0-1 HartlepoolA closely contested match between two of the league's top sides. Liverpool hit well throughout, but Hartlepool edged the game with a single run. A tough result, but a strong performance against an unbeaten team.

🏆 Liverpool 1-0 GallowaysWe finished the day with another victory, with Matt scoring the winning run. There was some excellent defensive play on both sides, but the Trojans held firm to close out the win.

While there were some fantastic individual moments, this was very much a team effort. A special mention must go to Jamie, whose catching was outstanding throughout the day. He made a number of brilliant catches and was a huge part of our defensive success.

A massive thank you also goes to our sighted support team:

👏 Tony – Second Base Clapper and Driver👏 Stuart – Second Base Clapper👏 Stu – Third Base Clapper👏 Karen – Mound Assistant and Home Plate Assistant👏 Angie – Photography and Catcher Analysis

Their encouragement, organisation and support helped keep the team focused and performing at its best throughout the day.

Special thanks to David for all the work behind the scenes organising team sheets and helping ensure everything ran smoothly, and to Karen for making sure we were organised and ready for every game.

We'd also like to thank Angie and Stu, Jamie's parents, who are always there supporting the Trojans, and members of Karen's family who came along to support Mark and cheer on the team. Having that support around the field means so much to the players.

We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks to British Blind Baseball, the volunteers, officials and everyone involved in organising and developing the sport across the UK. The opportunities they create allow players, volunteers and supporters to come together, compete, develop and enjoy this fantastic game. Their hard work behind the scenes continues to help Blind Baseball grow and thrive.

A huge thank you must also go to everyone connected with the Trojans back home. The work that goes into training, coaching and player development is what makes days like this possible. Special thanks to Scotty, Ben, Chris and Gina, along with everyone else who helps create such a positive and supportive environment for our players to learn, develop and enjoy the game.

🚴‍♂️ SUPPORT VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE EXPERIENCE THE FREEDOM OF TANDEM CYCLING 🚴‍♀️

SAVI Tandem Club, part of Sports and Activities for the Visually Impaired North West (SAVI North West), is currently looking for more volunteer sighted front riders to support our growing tandem rides across Liverpool and Wirral.

We’re also sharing a short video which gives a little more insight into tandem cycling with SAVI and highlights the difference volunteer front riders can make to visually impaired cyclists.

Following recent taster sessions and growing interest in the club, we now have more visually impaired people wanting to take part in our rides. However, without enough volunteer front riders, our group rides are currently smaller than we would like and we are not able to take as many visually impaired people out cycling as we would want to.

This is why we really need more sighted volunteers to help us continue running our group rides and supporting visually impaired riders to enjoy the freedom, confidence, and social connection that tandem cycling can bring.

You do not need to be an elite cyclist, just friendly, and willing to support others to enjoy the experience of tandem cycling. The club will provide guidance and support to help you get started.

Even if you’ve never ridden a tandem before, we can arrange a session for new volunteers to come along and try riding a tandem for the first time. It’s a great experience and a fantastic way to build confidence before joining one of the group rides.

💬 “Without the support of volunteer front riders, many visually impaired people wouldn’t get the chance to experience cycling. It’s great getting to know new people and having somebody alongside you whilst you ride. Front riders describe the surroundings and what’s around us as we cycle, helping us picture places and views that we otherwise wouldn’t get to experience, and some of them are absolutely breathtaking.”
Jimmy, visually impaired back rider

SAVI Tandem Club brings visually impaired and sighted cyclists together through regular group rides across Liverpool and Wirral. Rides always take place on a Sunday, with a mixture of long and short routes to suit different abilities. The club generally runs two rides each month, and there’s usually a café stop along the way ☕🚴

If you’d like to find out more about becoming a volunteer front rider, we’d love to hear from you.
