Tomorrow, supporter Amy, will be bravely taking on wing walk challenge for Alfie's Squad!

Amy was gifted the wing walk as a 30th birthday present from her husband. Over the year's she's accomplished activities such as a skydive, bungee jump and aerobatic flight, so a wing walk is kind of the final one.

Amy said,

“I learnt about Alfie's Squad when Allison attended Liverpool John Moores University to do a presentation to our mental health nursing cohort. Alfie's story stuck with me, as it made me think about the young children who have gone through something so traumatic and then to hear about the lack of support they receive. The work that Alfie had done and achieved at such a young age is inspirational!

"As I was going to do the wing walk I thought I would try and raise some money for the charity to help towards the cause.

Does this mean Prime Minister Andy Burnham is now (un)officially part of our Squad?

Just a bit of appreciation for Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor for Liverpool City Region 🙌

Steve Rotheram kindly took the time to stop by our Summer Party last month and hear about the work being delivered through Alfie's Squad and how we support children, young people and their families, who have been bereaved by su***de.

Handed a badge, he said he'd wear it with pride to help raise awareness, and that's exactly what he's been doing during recent important events and meetings, including a recent visit to where he got the chance to spread the word.

Don't worry PM, we're heading to Parliament on 8th Sept so we'll make sure to bring along your own badge!

The weather says the ☔ rain ☔should be off come dinnertime... so then you can Join us at Liverpool One Shopping Centre at the bottom the large steps by John Lewis, and hear the delightful talents of SingMe Merseyside choir.

Billy Hui and his singers will be entertaining shoppers between 1pm - 2pm, today Thursday 20th August, so come along and help support!

Some of our team will also be around the shopping centre collecting any generous donations for Alfie's Squad, while also raising awareness of the support available for families bereaved by su***de 🎶🧡🎶

Mother and daughter duo, Angela and Kate, are geared up to take on our , but sharing a previous travelling mishap, we’re hoping their skills have improved!

Angela and Kate explain, “Picture this, it is May 2023, you're standing on a train holding your mother’s million bags and your own multiple cameras and all you can hear is the beeping of the doors to the platform closing.

“Your mother Angela has merrily skipped off the train to ask the conductor if this station really is for Reading as the sign outside the window clearly shows. You know that any second now you're going to be headed to Windsor without her. In almost slow motion, the doors start to close and you see a look of anguish cross her face. You know on this trip you are going to make memories, but not necessarily good ones!”

Lessons learned and with a love of Race Across the World, the pair are keen for the challenge to take them out of their comfort zone.

“The main reason we want to take part is that we both think that Alfie's Squad is such an important and worthwhile charity. We know that it's hard enough to lose a parent at any age but can’t imagine how difficult it must be for a young person to lose a parent to su***de. We may not win the race, but we promise that we will give it our best to raise both funds and awareness of this incredible charity.

“Although we have zero map reading ability, no sense of direction and are easily distracted, we do possess some skills that we feel will help us along the way. We can (and will) chat to anyone and are very happy to ask for help when we need it. But mostly no matter what goes wrong on the trip, we guarantee that we’ll see the funny side. After all, don't they make the best stories?

“So, although our family have said they will be sneaking a tracker into our rucksacks, we are so excited to get started on this adventure!”

Feedback from friends and family include "hopeless", "is this a joke?", "we'll give you money purely for the entertainment!".

Not all community visits come with a delicious scone surprise!

Thank you to Childwall Monday Women’s Club for inviting us along to their Afternoon Tea and to hear how your amazing group have spent recent months organising raffles, bring and buy tables, and an annual auction to fundraise for Alfie's Squad.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity,✨£500✨has now been donated towards supporting families bereaved by su***de - thank you! 🧡

As well as being treated, Chris from our team also had the chance to chat to the group about the support we deliver, so thank you for the opportunity to spread awareness across the community.

Sue, Group Leader shares, “Every year we pick a local charity to donate to. We ask club members to come forward with names of local charities which support women and children. Alfie’s Squad was chosen for 2025/2026 as the club felt it was a charity that was having a very positive impact for children and families in the local area.”

Proud extended family post ✨

Our young members never fail to remind us just how much talent, humour, strength and determination they have. Despite the challenges they’ve faced, they continue to push boundaries, overcome barriers and work towards their goals. We are beyond proud!

They’ve all worked incredibly hard this year with exams, coursework and jobs, but today, we’ve had some particularly exciting news...

🎓 One of our young stars is heading off to study at the University of Oxford

👶 While another is beginning a career as a midwife!

Both brilliant achievements and we can’t wait to see where they lead.

If you spot any slightly leaky eyes around the office, we’re just chopping onions that's all!

Megan didn’t stand a chance of turning down this year’s not when last year, her nephew Joshua, his mum Katie and Joshua's cousin Jayden, finished an impressive 2nd place 🏆 in the same challenge!

Naturally, a bit of sibling rivalry has kicked in, and Megan has drafted in friend and colleague Sam, both representing The Bowker Group, to see if they can beat last year’s achievement.

“Sam's main responsibility will be making sure we don't get lost, as he's widely regarded as the one with the best sense of direction and the ability to know where we're supposed to be going.

“As accountants, we're also hoping our mathematical expertise gives us some sort of competitive advantage, although we're yet to establish exactly how debit and credits translate into race performance! Between my determination, Sam's navigation skills, and a shared competitive streak, we're hoping we can raise plenty of money for a fantastic cause and maybe even challenge last year's family result. No pressure!

“On a more serious note, we're incredibly proud to be supporting Alfie’s Squad, a charity that has made a real difference to our family. Following the loss of his father, Joshua struggled to come to terms with such a life-changing event. Through the peer support provided by Alfie's Squad, Joshua found a safe space where he felt understood, supported and reminded that he wasn't alone.

“Joshua, his mum and the team at Alfie's Squad also helped establish a new base in Bolton, which provides vital support for children and young people across Greater Manchester who need somewhere they can share their experiences and feelings in a safe environment.”

We’re told Megan already spends most days telling Sam what to do, so they’re not expecting the challenge itself to be much different!

Less than a week in and referrals are already showing just how important this support is 🧡🖤

We recently shared that Alfie’s Squad is now working in partnership with The Martin Gallier Project to support even more people across Cheshire and Merseyside who have been bereaved by su***de.

As referrals reach the team, every one of them is a reminder of why this work matters.

While this service is available to communities across Cheshire and Merseyside, families with children and young people (age 6-17) who live outside of that area can continue to contact Alfie’s Squad directly for peer support.

Don't they look the part!

Welcoming our first team for our introducing the FPC team! 🩷🏆💜

Once again, FPC are generously supporting Alfie’s Squad and are sponsoring team members Hannah and Ste to take on this year's challenge.

They are taking part in memory of Ste’s dad, who sadly died by su***de. Through this challenge, they hope to honour his memory, raise awareness of mental health and su***de prevention, and encourage more open and honest conversations.

Funds raised will help Alfie’s Squad continue providing peer support groups for children and young people affected by su***de bereavement.

Hannah and Ste share, “As keen lovers of the outdoors, we’re at our happiest exploring, adventuring and heading off on trips in our VW van, so Race for a Reason feels like the perfect challenge for us. We are incredibly proud to be taking part alongside Alfie’s Squad for such an important cause and they cannot wait to get started."

They also want to show their support for individuals and families who have experienced the heartbreak of losing someone to su***de. By speaking openly, Hannah and Ste hope to help challenge the stigma surrounding mental health and help ensure that bereaved children and young people do not have to face their grief alone.

FPC’s Managing Partner, Moira O'Shaughnessy said,

“Last year, FPC’s Bernice Blundell and I had the most fantastic time racing our way round the country alongside Alfie’s Squad families and other amazing teams. It was a wonderful experience during which we made some incredible memories, so as well as once again showing our support for the charity, we’re passing on the challenge to others in the company to be able to enjoy… and endure!” 🧡
