When we said Alfie’s Squad family teams could be a team of three for , we didn’t expect ‘three fully grown adults’… James and Dan are towering over Marie these days! 😍

Marie shares, “My boys and I are taking part once again in the race and are looking forward to another adventure. We’ve been a part of the group at Alfie’s Squad for the last couple of years and it’s been an amazing support for us all.

“We all had so much fun taking part as family last year, meeting loads of new amazing people, so we’re really excited to be back! This time around, we are going to be more competitive now that we know what to expect and how it all works out.”

As we speak, Matt and Anne Marie are limbering up for next week’s

Matt explains, “We are delighted to be taking part in Alfie’s Squad Race for a Reason 2026. As colleagues who work closely together every day, and as the local authority corporate management team leads for mental health and su***de prevention, this feels like a fantastic opportunity to support a cause that matters deeply to both of us, while putting our teamwork, determination and competitive instincts to the test in a very different environment.

“Raising awareness of mental health, su***de prevention and the life-changing support available through Alfie’s Squad is incredibly important, particularly for the diverse communities we serve across Liverpool. We want to help shine a light on the message that nobody should struggle alone and that support, hope and help are out there for anyone who needs it.

“Of course, we would be lying if we said there was not also a competitive element involved. Having watched colleagues Jayne and Freya take on the challenge last year, we definitely feel a certain amount of pressure to do the role justice and put in a strong performance.

“Most of all, we are looking forward to taking on the challenge together, trying not to do each other’s heads in too much, meeting the other teams, and helping raise the profile of the incredible work Alfie’s Squad does every day. We are hoping to both make a real difference for a brilliant cause, and also have a lot of fun along the way.”

Jen shares how she’s decided to sign up to our , “We are so unbelievably excited to be taking part in this year’s Race for a Reason. Alfie’s Squad has always, and always will, held a special place in our hearts and the hearts of our family and friends.

"My children Poppy and Archie accessed the support of Alfie’s Squad following the loss of their dad in March 2023. From day one we were scooped up and welcomed by open arms by Allison and Alfie and were welcomed into the family.

"The support and nurture my children received during their time with Alfie’s Squad cannot be put into words. Allison and Alfie created a space safe for them to attend alongside other children in their situation. It was a huge part of a healing journey that will last forever, that was made that much easier and tolerable due to the presence of Alfie’s Squad at a time when they needed it most.

"I know my children have benefited from the service greatly and will take the kindness and support they received with them through the rest of the lives. What Alfie and Allison has created is special and I hope we can help raise as much money as possible to continue their amazing selfless work.

"Jay and I will do our best, but I’m not sure if I am more nervous of the race or his competitive streak! I’m sure memories will be made in light of a great cause."

Alfie spoke in front of his biggest live crowd on Friday! 😎

Alfie's Squad was kindly invited not only attend the R3 Association of Business Recovery Professionals lunch event in London last Friday, but Alfie was given a platform to share his experience and raise awareness of the support being delivered for other families bereaved by su***de.

With only two weeks to go 😮 let us introduce you to Nicky and Scott, afraid the dogs won’t be tagging along!

Nicky explains,

"Alfie's Squad does amazing work and we want to support that in whatever way we can. What's not to like? Having an opportunity to race across locations in the UK, testing our skills against our fellow competitors, whilst getting a shock at how unfit we are! Put these together and you have Race for a Reason 2026!"

"From a young age, I’ve always had a strong sense of community and a desire to help others wherever I can." Race team member Jack Radcliffe is determined to make an impact 🧡

Along with son, Jack is proud to to be taking part in our Race for a Reason 2026, as giving back has always been important to him.

"I first became aware of Alfie’s Squad through a good friend of mine, Hilda Yarker, and was deeply moved by both Alfie’s story and the incredible work the charity is doing. Alfie lost his dad to su***de when he was just eight years old. After struggling to find the right support himself, he created Alfie’s Squad to help other children and young people facing the same heart-breaking experience.

"From Friday 16th to Sunday 18th October, we'll be taking part in Race for a Reason 2026, a unique challenge that will test our teamwork, problem-solving skills and determination as we follow clues and travel to secret locations across the country, all while raising vital funds and awareness for Alfie’s Squad.

"No child or young person should have to face such a difficult journey alone. By supporting this challenge, you’re helping Alfie’s Squad continue providing the guidance, care and support that families need during some of their hardest times.

Kicking off our Halloween mischief early this year thanks to Magical Woodland! 👻 🎃 👻

Following a kind nomination from one of our families, we're over the (full) moon to have been chosen as one of the charities being supported by Magical Woodland, and their Halloween event of spooky fun, light displays and more!

We promise donations won’t go towards their padded trackie bottoms! 🤣

Sean and Steven are back for this year's Race for a Reason challenge, proudly representing Quilter Cheviot and raising funds for Alfie's Squad. Sean is an Investment Manager and Steven a Financial Planner, and together they provide a holistic wealth management service to private clients and their families across the UK.

Sean explains, "Returning after finishing joint 5th in last year's event (or was it joint 4th place?) we're hoping that experience counts for something this time around. After navigating the country by train, taxi, foot and an alarming number of bicycles, we now know exactly what Race for a Reason can throw at them... although they've learned never to underestimate the importance of a good map, comfortable footwear, or keeping hold of a driving licence."

Their motivation remains deeply personal. Sean's cousin Alfie founded Alfie's Squad after losing his dad to su***de and struggling to find support from others who understood what he was experiencing. Sean is proud that the charity now provides vital peer support for children and young people affected by su***de bereavement.

Steven has also seen the impact that su***de can have on families and communities through his work supporting mental health and homelessness initiatives in grassroots football. Together, they are committed to helping raise awareness of the charity's work and ensuring more families can access the support they need.

As for this year's race strategy, the duo are keeping plans closely guarded, rumours suggest they're now on 'Plan E' and have been studying other potential modes of transport, brushing up on their negotiating skills and considering whether padded tracksuit bottoms should become mandatory race equipment in anticipation of another bike-heavy challenge!

"With the Evertonian and the Liverpool supporters once again putting football rivalries aside, the goal is simple: raise as much money as possible for Alfie's Squad, improve on last year's top five finish and, with a bit of luck, make it all the way to the finish line without having to sprint through quite so many railway stations."
