Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group

Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group Historic aviation charity dedicated to restoring a small collection of locally important aircraft. Visitors are welcome!

The Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group (SAHG) originally started life as 'The Jetstream Club' which was formed to manage the Jetstream 41 (G-JMAC) kindly donated by BAe Systems at Woodford. The Jetstream cockpit was converted to a flight simulator and the Club properly registered as a charity ( #1106923)

We are generally working on the aircraft on Saturdays between 10:30 and 16:00. In January of 2010

it was agreed that a name change was in order to better reflect our activities. In addition to the Jetstream we also have Grumman AA1 G-SEXY, Avro 748 G-BEJD and our beloved Percival Prince G-AMLZ as well as a selection of smaller historic items. Fllying at Speke can be dated back to 1913 and Speke played a seldom reported yet significant role during WWII. We are tremendously grateful to the Crowne Plaza Hotel that now occupies the 1930s terminal building for all the help they have given us and for letting us use their apron. We are situated behind the actual hotel on the concrete hardstanding. We encourage visits from anyone who is interested, as well as bookings for our jetstream flight simulator. If you wish to make a simulator booking contact Rob using the given number. If you want to come and look around feel free to post on our wall or just turn up on a Saturday when work will hopefully be progressing. http://www.spekeaero.org

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR VISITORS

Please note that neither the aircraft, or the site are suitable for very young children. The aircraft are in an unfinished, part-restored state, and the apron is currently in use as an active car park.

To this end, we do not consider this to be a safe destination for children under 10 years of age, and we reserve the right to refuse access to the aircraft where we consider there to be a safety issue.

Another great day on site today with plenty of visitors despite the rain, thank you for all of your donations.
The rain did hinder any outside jobs today but it allowed a bit of housekeeping at the JD end sorting through our parts inventory.
The only work that we managed was getting the Prince a little closer to having her own power supply allowing us to fit lighting both inside and out.

Another nice day with plenty of visitors enjoying the planes, unfortunately we had to keep the fire engine closed to day while its steps were repainted.
Work continues on the Prince running cables throughout her fuselage for interior and exterior lighting, we are really looking forward to the big switch on.
At the other end the paining of JDs steps was also finished off and some new boards were made for a set of scaffolding that was donated to us a few months ago.
The Jetstream seemed to be busy for most of the day with quite a few sim bookings.
In other news our fridge magnets are proving very popular, we have two designs available with a couple more coming soon so keep an eye on our webshop.
See you next week

With todays fine weather we were busy at both ends of the apron today making hay while the sun was shining. The Jetstream had a wash and polish in between flight sim bookings, G-SEXY had a cockpit clean up getting her ready for some cosmetic work in the coming months. Work continues inside the Prince running cables ready for illumination and the Fire Engine was as popular as ever with the younger visitors.
At JD a little more paint prep took place and also the door surround highlights were added making a fantastic difference to her. A few more improvements to the steps to make them safer and more pleasing to look at, in all a good day with plenty done.

After a dull start the weather gods decided to shine on us and give us an afternoon of glorious sunshine. This brought us quite a few visitors but also enabled us the put a little work upgrading our steps for JD, G-SEXY had a good clean out and the Jetstream benefited from a good wash as well and the Prince had a little attention. Finally after we lost our flag in the high winds a few weeks back we hoisted our new one.
