Today we laid Sheila to rest - everyone at LHFC is thinking about her family and friends at this sad time. Below are a few words from our CEO, John;
“Sheila was the kind of person whose presence could lift a room before she even opened her mouth—and when she did open it, you knew you were in for words of wisdom, laughter, or both.
To me, she wasn’t just a colleague. She was my friend, my sidekick, and the partner in crime I never asked for, but was blessed to have. With her quick humour, her grit, and that fierce loyalty of hers, she made every day brighter, and every challenge feel possible.
She wasn’t just part of the community—she was the heartbeat of it. She showed up for people in ways that mattered, offering kindness without judgement, and strength without hesitation. And she dragged me along for the ride more times than I can count!
I’ll never forget the day she told me to get the minibus to the M&S Exhibition Centre. I thought we were picking up a few boxes. Next thing I know, we’re shifting what was literally an entire exhibition’s worth of food. Only Sheila could get me into a situation like that and make it feel like an adventure.
Or the Christmas when I’d already delivered about a million toys to her, and she rang me on Christmas Eve—Christmas Eve!—and said, “John, I’ve got this single mum who’s got nothing.” And of course, off we went again, because when Sheila called, you didn’t say no. You showed up, just the way she did. She made sure people had what they needed, even if it meant opening her doors on Christmas Day to feed the five thousand.
To her friends, she was a confidante, a source of endless laughter, and the person who could make even the hardest days feel survivable. She reminded us that no one had to face their struggles alone. Her spirit embodied everything Liverpool Homeless FC stands for: resilience, solidarity, and the belief that every person deserves dignity and belonging.
Sheila’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the friendships she forged, and the community she helped strengthen. I’ll remember her not just for her courage, but for her warmth, her wit, her chaos, and her unwavering heart.
She leaves behind a space that can’t be filled, but also a reminder to look after one another the way she always did. Those of us who knew her will carry her memory forward with pride, love, and deep gratitude.
May she rest in peace, and may her spirit continue to inspire those she cared for so deeply.”
