RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Station Our role is to operate an emergency 24/7 service to save lives at sea and on the coast. We have a cadre of 30 + operational crew.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution [ RNLI ] is a national charity that has been in existence since 1824 and is funded entirely by public donations and not by the state. New Brighton Lifeboat Station covers the River Mersey down beyond Widnes Bridge, the Wirral & Sefton coastlines and was originally founded in 1863. We are one of the busiest lifeboat stations in the north of England with on av

erage 50 plus call outs per year. We operate one rescue craft :

Atlantic 85 – a high performance inshore rescue lifeboat B-837 ‘Charles Dibdin’

Hoylake – operate a Shannon class All Weather lifeboat and a hovercraft. West Kirby – operate a D Class inshore lifeboat – small RIB ideal for the shallow waters of the River Dee

All Wirral lifeboat stations are staffed entirely by volunteers both crew, management and fundraisers

Today is International Lifeguard Appreciation Day! 🛟

Yesterday, representatives from New Brighton RNLI, Hoylake RNLI, Chester RNLI Fundraising Branch, as well as members of the public, gathered as a group of 42 people in a line on the beach. This was to represent the 42 lives saved by the Wirral Lifeguards since their introduction 25 years ago! 📟

To mark International Lifeguard Appreciation Day, we’re joining the RNLI in celebrating lifeguards past and present as our charity marks 25 years of our world-class lifeguard service.

Today we recognise the dedication, professionalism and lifesaving impact of RNLI lifeguards who help keep millions of beach visitors safe each year in coastal communities around the UK and Channel Islands.

Since the RNLI's lifeguard service launched in 2001, lifeguards have saved 2,165 lives, aided more than 459,000 people, responded to over 333,000 incidents and carried out more than 48 million preventative actions.

On the Wirral, RNLI Wirral Lifeguards patrol the beaches at West Kirby, Moreton, Harrison Drive, Leasowe Bay, The Plateaux, and New Brighton. Since the service launched here in 2015, local RNLI lifeguards have attended 3,515 incidents, aided 16,368 people and saved 18 lives.

RNLI Lifeguards North West began patrols in Sefton in 2010 and have attended 7,303 incidents, aided 45,955 people and saved 23 lives. In Formby, RNLI lifeguards have attended 1,325 incidents, aided 9,221 people and saved one life.

To celebrate this milestone, yesterday saw 42 people line up on New Brighton Beach as a visual representation of the incredible number of lives by lifeguards in our region since the service was first introduced.

RNLI lifeboat crews work closely with lifeguards to save lives as . Today we say thank you to all of the dedicated RNLI lifeguards who help to keep visitors to our coast safe.

Huge congratulations to our volunteer crew member, Jack, who has just finished his Crew Emergency Procedures course at the RNLI College in Poole 🛟

Jack went through training in pyrotechnics, as well as capsize procedures on board our Atlantic 85 lifeboat. He also learnt crucial life preserving skills whilst lost at sea 📟

We're all proud of Jack's progress so far, as he takes his next step on his RNLI journey! 🫡
