Five days. An incredible line-up. Thousands of people. And a brilliant example of what can happen when local organisations work together. ❤️
As the final notes of Salt & Tar fade away, we just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this year’s festival such a success.
A special thank you to Sefton Council, who deliver Salt & Tar and particularly the Hospitality Team - Yates & of course Finesilver - the whole team. It’s been a pleasure working alongside you to animate the canal side and create something really special for Bootle.
We’ve been running festivals down here at Lock and Quay for 10 years. Over that time we’ve learned, adapted and honed the space - figuring out what works, how people move through it and, most importantly, how to create that perfect festival vibe.
And we’ve loved hearing so many people say how much they enjoyed it! 😍
That’s something we’re incredibly proud of. Lock & Quay is community owned and not-for-profit, and every event we host helps support a community asset that exists for the benefit of local people and the wider Bootle community.
We were also delighted to work alongside our good friends at Scrapyard Studios CIC, another brilliant local CIC, who brought grassroots and emerging talent to the VIP stage and busking zones. Giving local artists a platform alongside some of the biggest names in music is exactly the kind of collaboration we love.
And what a five days it was - culminating in Nile Rodgers closing the party. 🎶🔥
Huge respect too to the hardworking Salt & Tar crew and our own Lock and Quay team. Festivals look effortless from the outside, but they take an enormous amount of graft, organisation, teamwork and good humour behind the scenes!
Most of all, this week has shown what we can achieve when community organisations, CICs and the council work in partnership, bringing our different strengths, experience and assets together.
There’s a lot of talk about partnership working. This is what it looks like when it works.
So… what else could we achieve together? 👀

Have you ever thought...

"What's the point? Nobody listens anyway."

Or perhaps you've experienced the opposite, where someone took the time to listen and it led to something positive.

Community power starts with people believing their voice matters.

That's what we're trying to understand.

Not whether everyone agrees on everything, but whether people feel they can genuinely influence the decisions that affect where they live.

If you've got ten minutes, we'd really love to hear your experiences through our Community Power survey.

Because better decisions happen when more people are part of making them 💬👥

📢 YOUR VOICE. YOUR BOOTLE.

For 25 years we've believed the best decisions are made with communities, not for them.

Now we're asking one simple question...

How much influence do you feel you really have over what happens in Bootle?

Do you feel listened to?

Do you feel able to influence decisions?

What would help people have a stronger voice in shaping the future of our neighbourhood?

This short questionnaire is part of SAFE's Community Power programme, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund. Your views will help shape our learning here in Bootle and contribute to national work exploring how communities can play a bigger role in local decision-making.

Whether you've lived in Bootle all your life, have recently moved here, run a business, volunteer, work here or simply care about the area – we'd really like to hear from you.

👉 Complete the survey here: https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/liverpool/community-power-survey

🎟️ As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey can enter our prize draw to win 2 tickets to any festival at the Lock & Quay!

Please also help us spread the word by sharing this post. Every voice matters, and every response helps build a stronger Bootle.

🎵 WHY WOULD YOU STAY AT THE LOCK & QUAY?

Because some of the biggest events in Bootle are right on our doorstep.

Less than a 10-minute walk down the canal, our friends at Salt and Tar - a destination for live music, culture and major events. Together, we've welcomed incredible artists, created unforgettable experiences and shown what happens when communities invest in themselves.
And this year, while Salt and Tar's site undergoes redevelopment, events will be taking place right here at the Lock & Quay 🎉 (Tickets available via Salt & Tar!)

So when our accommodation opens, you'll be able to:
🚶 Walk to major events in minutes
🎶 Enjoy live music without the travel stress
🍻 Stay in the heart of Bootle's growing cultural scene
💷 Avoid city-centre accommodation prices

Why wouldn't you?!

Because when Billy Ocean's playing down the road, who wants a taxi home?!

We're currently transforming the upper floors of the Lock & Quay into community-owned accommodation, helping create a sustainable future for our venue and the wider community. But we need YOUR help to raise an extra £30,000 for fixtures and fittings!

Every donation - big or small - helps protect a place that belongs to the community and everything it delivers for Bootle.

Help us keep the doors open for the next 10 years and beyond.

WHY WOULD YOU STAY AT THE LOCK AND QUAY?!

Why WOULDN'T You?!!!🛶

Safe has been in Bootle for 20 years and over a decade ago, opened the Lock & Quay community-owned pub & gardens, where we began animating the canal side, bringing people together to canoe, create public artworks and enjoy great music!

We believe our canal is something to be enjoyed and cared for. Since 2018, we’ve proudly worked to enhance our stretch of the canal, helping to make our waterways cleaner, greener and more welcoming!

Regular FREE canoe clubs, canal clean ups & of course our annual Canal of Light event!

To secure the pub’s future, we are delivering a £1 million refurbishment project, which will create guest accommodation above the pub and a new kitchen for food, helping make the venue more sustainable while continuing to grow Bootle as the destination the community has worked hard to create.
