Why Would You Stay at the Lock & Quay?
Why WOULDN'T you?!!!

Only a 7min drive or a 30min walk to Hill Dickinson Stadium!

To secure the pub’s future, we are delivering a £1 million refurbishment project, which will create guest accommodation above the pub and a new kitchen for food, helping make the venue more sustainable while continuing to grow Bootle as the destination the community has worked hard to create.

We’ve already secured £415,000...
Work starts to repair the roof very soon, but we need to raise an extra £30,000 for fixtures and fittings – this is where YOU can help!

Every donation - big or small - helps protect a place that belongs to the community and everything it delivers for Bootle.

Help us keep the doors open for the next 10 years and beyond. 🍻

It’s exciting to see Bootle stepping forward with a bid for Town of Culture - a huge moment for the area and a chance to celebrate everything that makes our community unique.
We have been in Bootle for 20 years and over a decade ago, opened the Lock & Quay community-owned pub & gardens, where we began animating the canal side, bringing people together to canoe, create public artworks and enjoy great music with artists like Glenn Tilbrook, Hue & Cry, Space, The Farm and The Christians helping to put Bootle firmly back on the cultural map as a destination.
That early work showed what’s possible when communities lead, turning overlooked spaces into thriving community hubs - places people are proud to take ownership of.
For us, culture isn’t just about big events, it’s about long-term relationships, community voice, and creating opportunities for people to shape their place.
As the Town of Culture journey develops, we’re keen to keep building on that legacy, working with partners and residents to ensure culture in Bootle continues to grow from the ground up.
"A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people." Mahatma Gandhi 💚

The National Lottery Community Fund

We're excited to be backing Bootle's bid to be the very first UK Town of Culture.

Scrapyard Studios is proud to be based in Bootle, sharing the creative hub at SAFE Regeneration Ltd with musicians, artists and community champions. Next door to us is the Lock & Quay , our home venue, where we've put on numerous gigs, inside and out, and our own festivals, supported by the community there. We've also seen big names there, including Space, The Cheap Thrills and The Real People.

Just around the corner is Salt and Tar where we've worked alongside Tom Jones, Billy Ocean, The Sugababes and more! There are numerous creative community organisations in Bootle. It's a place where people are passionate about changing the world for the better.

Bootle's musical heritage includes Billy J Kramer, The Farm, and Red Rum Club. We love being part of that story. Winning Town Of Culture would be a boss next chapter, unlocking even more potential!
