Last Friday, we welcomed Peter Dowd, the MP for Bootle and Cllr Paulette Lappin for Ford (Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills and Deputy Leader) to see first-hand how we support young people across Sefton.

As part of Career Connect, we are proud to deliver the Sefton Best Practice NEET Reduction and Early Intervention Service (commissioned by Sefton Council), helping young people who are not in education, employment or training to re-engage and thrive.

During the visit, they met some of the inspiring young people (and their families) we’ve had the privilege to support, hearing powerful stories about resilience, ambition, and success.

Our CEO, Sheila Clark also sat down with one young person who explained how her adviser never gave up on her - supporting her journey into college and helping her take confident next steps towards her future.

Sefton continues to be a place of opportunity and collaboration, with Sefton Council leading the way through its investment in early help and proactive approaches to tackling youth unemployment. Together, we are building brighter futures and ensuring every young person has the chance to reach their full potential.

Awards are in the air... and we're congratulating Hugh Baird College who won the Outstanding Student Support award at the Association of College Beacon Awards!

Hugh Baird won for its ‘Education for All’ initiative – its comprehensive, inclusive approach designed to ensure young people can access personalised, high-quality education, regardless of the barriers they face.

We’re proud to partner with them on this mission.

- We have a link careers adviser at the Bootle and Thornton College sites, who supports young people to engage, and with next steps if they have a change of plan.
- We also work closely with young people facing additional barriers, such as SEN needs, care leavers, mental health and more, taking an early intervention approach, to help young people stay engaged with education, training and jobs.
- We collaborate on the Turnaround Project, a tailored initiative aimed at re-engaging young people aged 16-18 who face significant barriers to education and employment. Now on its eighth cohort, it provides bespoke employability and study skills while building independence and confidence, bringing young people face-to-face with employers.

When colleges and careers services work together with a shared commitment to improving the life chances for young people in our region, we do amazing things!

Congratulations to Hugh Baird College Baird College, and here’s to even more positive outcomes for students!

We have some incredibly exciting news to share 🏆

Hugh Baird College has just been named the best college in the UK for student support - and we couldn't be more proud.

Our 'Education for All' programmes support young people who face real barriers to learning. Young people who may have struggled at school, who have additional needs, or who simply needed someone to believe in them.
