Operation Bridging Futures 2026 🏆

As part of National Cadet Week, cadets from across 3 Company took part in our Company Competition, 'Operation Bridging Futures'. It was hosted by 75 Engineer Regiment whom we have developed a fantastic partnership with.

The day came just a week after our Company Weekend, so a huge well done to every Detachment who took part. Our cadets represented 3 Company with real pride, and earned praise from 75 Engineers that opens the door to more opportunities to work together.

Thank you to Sergeant Catherine Salisbury, who led the reserve team on the day and helped design the competition.

Competition results
🥇 1st place: Heswall
🥈 2nd place: Wallasey
🥉 3rd place: Mixed Team

A special mention goes to our Mixed Team. Coming together as a brand new team on the day is no easy task, and their resilience and teamwork shone through.

Operation Bridging Futures will now be an annual competition, and we’re proud to have built the foundations of it together with 75 Engineers. Our partnership with the reserves is vital, and this is an exciting step into the next phase of our community engagement.

Thank you to all our cadets, adult volunteers and families for your continued support.

Huge thanks to 75 Engineer Regiment!

We were proud today to attend Liverpool Cathedral for the Service of Dedication and Thanksgiving marking the beginning of the Legal Year, with a selection of cadets from Merseyside Army Cadets.

Our cadets joined other cadet units to line the procession, representing their organisations with pride and professionalism. Col Paul Ennis our Commandant said “it is always a pleasure to see our young people playing their part in the life of our community.

A particularly proud moment was seeing our very own Cadet Sergeant Alistair Burgess attending his first event as one of the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for the next twelve months. Congratulations, Alistair—a wonderful honour and an opportunity to represent Merseyside ACF throughout the year ahead. We all wish you every success”.

Thank you to all the cadets who attended and to the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers whose time and support make these opportunities possible. You did us proud.

Skills for life…

I was a cadet and now I work in student recruitment and higher education supporting students in school and college settings every day.

Caitlin Mcellenborough joined Netherton detachment in 2011 and finished her cadet career in 2016 as Cdt CSM.

Caitlin has nothing but good memories from her time as a cadet.

“Being a cadet gave me one of the strongest foundations I could have asked for going into Adulthood.
I credit many of the key skills I have today to my time in cadets. Being a cadet taught me to be brave, gave me self belief and gave me the confidence to step outside of my comfort zone. I genuinely believe my time as a cadet played a huge part in shaping the person I am today”

Skills for life…

I was a cadet and now I am…

A veteran and ultra marathon athlete.
Martin Kelly joined Kirkby detachment at 13 years old and served as a cadet until he reached 18, reaching the rank of cdt RSM before joining the kings regiment.

This year Martin ran 5 Ultra marathons and raised over £1500 for the charity Combat Stress.
speaking of his time as a cadet Martin said;

“Cadets taught me discipline, resilience and the importance of giving back. The lessons and life experience I gained as a cadet continue to shape the person I am today.”

Today we focus on skills for life and shine a light on some of our ex cadets who put the skills they found as an army cadet into creating a bright future for themselves

I was a cadet and now I am…

A communications specialist serving in the Army Air Corps.
Alisha Lea joined New Ferry detachment at 12 years old and served as a cadet until she was 17 before joining the army.
Alisha told us this about her time as a cadet;

“I didn’t have the best family life growing up but joining cadets gave me a home away from home, my detachment became my family. My time as a cadet taught me resilience, confidence and gave me the head start in life I needed to pursue the amazing career I have now as a serving soldier.
If you’re thinking about joining the ACF my advice would be stop thinking about it and do it!”

Yesterday we shared on our stories how our cadets take part in community engagement activities, volunteering at local charity running events etc

Sometimes community engagement can look like an inter cadet competition organised by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service

Our team had a great day last weekend at their purpose built training centre in Aintree and came runners up to St. Mary's College,

This National Cadet Week, we’re celebrating the young people and adult volunteers who make Merseyside Army Cadet Force special and looking ahead to opportunities for more young people across our county.

Our recent visit from Calvin Bailey MBE MP, Minister for Veterans and People, to Norris Green Army Reserve Centre put Merseyside’s cadets at the centre of the conversation.

The Minister was joined by Major General Justin Stenhouse DSO CBE, Commander Cadets; Brigadier Gary McDade, Deputy Commander Cadets; Colonel Catherine Harrison, Regional Colonel Cadets North West; and Colonel Ashley Fulford OBE, National Colonel Cadets. Sue Higgison Deputy Lieutenant, attended on behalf of HM Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, Peter Oliver OBE.

Cadet RSM James Abbott led a discussion giving cadets and adult volunteers the opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions directly.

The visit also highlighted the Merseyside Army Cadets Growth Pilot. Our Commandant, Colonel Paul Ennis, and Major Alex Saunders, Officer Commanding the North West Cadet Training Team, outlined opportunities to reach more young people.

Discussions brought together Lieutenant Colonel Glyn Potts MBE, Deputy Colonel Cadets North West; Nigel Ward of Northern Schools Trust and Chance Wilson of the North West Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association to explore school partnerships, access and growth.

It was a special opportunity to show what Merseyside ACF offers today and explore what we could offer tomorrow.

Join us throughout Cadets Week as we celebrate our cadets, volunteers and their achievements.
