Care worth talking about

This Shared Lives Week, Shared Lives Plus is encouraging everyone to help spread the word about Shared Lives.

One conversation can make a difference. By telling just one person about Shared Lives, you could help someone discover a life-changing opportunity.

To help raise awareness, we're hosting a FREE webinar on Thursday 18th June, 2–3pm. It's a great chance to learn more about Shared Lives and hear inspiring stories.

“Just because we’re diagnosed doesn’t mean you have to stifle our creativity.”

When Michael Booth was diagnosed with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease at 46, he was told writing a novel would be too difficult for someone living with dementia.

Now, Michael is a published author and will also be involved in developing the Live More with Shared Lives programme in Hartlepool. Live More supports people living with dementia earlier, before families reach crisis point, helping people stay connected to the things that matter to them through flexible, relationship-based support.

His debut novel, Forget Me Not: The Letter in the Headboard, is a haunting mystery set in a quiet coastal town, following a former Sergeant Major living with dementia as she becomes caught up in a murder investigation shaped by memory, identity and buried secrets.

Recently featured on BBC Look North, Michael hopes his story encourages people to look beyond a diagnosis and recognise that creativity, purpose and contribution do not disappear after dementia.

“She’s got a new lease of life.”

This Dementia Action Week, we’re sharing Kath and her family’s story

With support from Shared Lives carer Elaine, Kath is getting back out into the community -visiting cafés, parks, garden centres and spending time doing the things she enjoys.

For her son Russell, the difference has been clear.

“She’s sprightlier,” he says. “Before, she was just sitting on the couch all day.”

Live More with Shared Lives helps people living with dementia stay active, connected and part of everyday life - while giving families regular, trusted support too.
