📽️🍿✨ Winter Warmers at The Plaza Cinema! ✨🍿📽️

Today our members enjoyed a wonderful trip to The Plaza Cinema Plaza Community Cinema as part of their Community Monthly Winter Warmer, where we watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 🌴🌞🎬

It was especially lovely to see our member Matty hard at work there too! 👏😊

Our weekly social groups are about so much more than the activity. Whether we are bowling 🎳, enjoying lunch together 🍽️, going to the cinema 🎥, or getting creative with arts and crafts at our Community Cottage 🎨🏡, every session provides an opportunity to build friendships, stay connected, boost confidence and reduce social isolation. 💕🤝
Seeing members laughing together, catching up with friends and warmly welcoming new faces reminds us just how important these social opportunities are. 🌟
A strong community helps people thrive, and we are so proud to create spaces where everyone feels valued, included and supported. 💙💛

Recently Lewis took the lead in recording an interview with Alice and Linford from RAWD for our Reach Out radio show on LCR 106.7FM.

Lewis asked Alice and Linford if they would like to be interviewed, he liaised with them on availability, planned the interview, prepared the questions and practised, practised, practised.

Lewis was the interviewer - a role he js doing extremely well and it is great to see him putting his preparation into practice.

Our Reach Out show provides our members the opportunity to develop their communication, interviewing and presentation skills, build confidence and take ownership of a piece of work from initial idea through to recording.

Lewis choosing to interview RAWD has also helped strengthen our relationship with RAWD as well as providing new content for our next Reach Out show, supported our aims of raising awareness of learning disabilities and connecting with other organisations.

Our Outreach Champions have had a busy few weeks, so our Friday meeting was a chance to catch up, look back at everything we've been doing and start thinking about what comes next!

We talked about our new comedy course, who would like to get involved and some of the exciting opportunities coming up.

And we've got some brilliant radio news!

BBC Radio Merseyside has kindly given us permission to play the programmes we recorded for their Breakfast Show back in September on our very own Reach Out show on LCR 106.7FM!

This means such a lot to us. Being invited onto BBC Radio Merseyside for a whole week was an incredible opportunity to reach a much bigger audience and talk about learning disability, Mencap Liverpool and Sefton and, most importantly, the work our Outreach Champions do.

Our Champions work hard to raise awareness, welcome new members, build relationships with other organisations, try new things and make sure the voices of people with learning disabilities are heard.

And they absolutely delivered!

A huge thank you to Ben Anderson, Executive Producer at BBC Radio Merseyside, for supporting us and giving permission to share these recordings with our own listeners. It's a really generous gesture and we're delighted to be able to revisit such a special experience.

We also started talking about what we'd like to achieve next. Although, after a whole week on BBC Radio Merseyside, we've certainly set ourselves a challenge to top that one!

And finally, a lovely personal moment from Friday. Katie surprised Jo with the most beautiful autumn wreath! Such an unexpected and thoughtful gift, and a really lovely way to end the week. 🍂

Last Thursday was our final volunteering session with In Another Place, helping to get everything ready for the incredible Narnia Experience at the Strand Shopping Centre in Bootle!

It was all hands on deck as our members got stuck into painting, putting things together and adding those all-important finishing touches before the doors open to the public.

There was a real buzz in the air, with everyone working hard to bring this magical world to life. After weeks of helping behind the scenes, it was brilliant to see everything coming together!

We've absolutely loved being part of the preparations, working alongside the In Another Place team and contributing to something so special in our local community. A huge thank you to everyone who has welcomed us and made us feel part of the team.

And now it's nearly showtime! 🎭

The Narnia Experience runs from 17 October to 7 November and invites audiences to step through the wardrobe into the magical world of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

You'll journey through Narnia, meet familiar characters including Mr Tumnus, Mrs Beaver and the White Witch, and even choose whether to follow Lucy's or Edmund's story!

This is the first time the full Narnia Experience has come to Bootle, and we're so pleased to have played a little part in making it happen.

On Wednesday 7th October, Mencap Liverpool and Sefton attended Thornton College's Moving On Event members Racheal Roy and Nell did a brilliant job representing our organisation. Nell used to attend Thornton and Racheal went there when it used to be a primary school and loved seeing how it had changed.

The event was organised for students who will be leaving Thornton College in June 2027 and their families, giving them the opportunity to explore what is available once they leave college.

We spoke with parents and students about Mencap Liverpool and Sefton, the different activities and opportunities we offer, and how people can get involved.

It was also a great opportunity to meet and network with other organisations, including New Directions, Live to Learn, Southport College, Career Connect and SWRAC.

Events like this are important for raising awareness if what we do, building relationships with families and education providers, and making sure young people with learning disabilities know about opportunities to make friends, develop confidence and become part of their local community.

A really worthwhile evening, with lots of conversations and new connections!

🌟🎉 DOUBLE CELEBRATION AT THE MENCAP COTTAGE! 🎉🌟

Today was a very special day as we came together for not one, but TWO celebrations! 🥳💜🎂

Firstly, we said a heartfelt goodbye to our wonderful Nadine 👋💐. We are so sad to see Nadine leave Mencap Liverpool & Sefton, but we wish her all the very best on her new journey ahead 🍀✨. Thank you, Nadine, for everything you have done over the years for our members and volunteers. You will be missed by all. 🤗💜

Secondly, we celebrated a very special milestone for our amazing volunteer Tony... his 70th Birthday! 🎂🎈🎁🎉🎊
This was a surprise celebration 🤫🥳 and it was fantastic to see Tony’s reaction! 🎉 Tony has been a dedicated volunteer for many, many years and is always the first to lend a helping hand 🙌💙. He does so much for our members, staff and fellow volunteers, so it was only right that we had a day all about him! 👏⭐

We enjoyed delicious cake 🍰😋, fun games 🎲🎯, lots of dancing 💃🕺, plenty of laughter 😂🤣 and, most importantly, spending time together ❤️🤝.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make today so special! 🌟

Looking good in red, Paul!

Look who’s proudly wearing his new red parkrun milestone top!

We recently celebrated Paul completing his 50th parkrun, and now he has the top to prove it!

It still feels pretty special knowing that Paul’s running journey began with our Couch to 5K programme, funded through a Mencap grant. What started as an opportunity to give running a go has turned into 50 parkruns – and counting.

The red top is very well deserved.

What an absolutely fantastic day we had at our monthly bowling social! 🎉😊
A huge THANK YOU to all the amazing staff at Tenpin Bowling Southport 💙👏. From the moment we arrive, we are always greeted with warm smiles 😃, friendly faces 🥰, and exceptional support throughout our visit. You truly help make our bowling days so special! 🌟🎳

Today’s games were full of excitement and great achievements! 🎯🔥 We celebrated: 🎳 1 lucky strike! 🏆 2 bowlers scoring over 100 points! 👏 A massive well done to everyone who took part!
But as always, the best part of the day wasn’t just the scores... ❤️ It was the laughter 😂, the smiles 😄, the friendships 🤝, and all the wonderful memories made together. 🌈✨

Days like these remind us that it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun, supporting one another, and enjoying great company. 🥰🎉

Another busy morning at our Garden Drop-In on Tuesday with a great turnout from the regular crew – and lovely to welcome James back after his break!

There was plenty to keep everyone busy, from weeding, grass seeding and watering to planting colourful autumn violas and tidying up the borders.

Our brilliant scarecrows are now in place too – including Miss Moneypenny, who proved very popular for a photo opportunity!

We also had a lovely visit from former Mencap volunteer Joan, who came to see how the New Zealand Flax she donated is getting on.

A brilliant team effort as always – the garden is looking great! 🌱🌼
