Today, on International Nurses Day, we at Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all nurses for the incredible care, compassion, and dedication you show every single day. πŸ’™

Your support makes a real difference to patients and families during some of the most difficult times in their lives. We are especially grateful to the nurses who continue to refer patients to MAVSG, helping us provide practical advice, emotional support, and assistance to those affected by asbestos-related diseases.

By working together, we can ensure patients receive the support they need, when they need it most.

Thank you for all that you do β€” today and every day.

This month’s Living Well Afternoon Tea was well attended with 20 coming along to enjoy sweet and savoury treats and the chance to have a good chat.

We have been given some lovely ideas for the Summer Day Out and even for our Christmas Party!

A special mention has to be made of β€˜The Cream Cakes’ team who won the quiz and a box of chocolates each.

Many thanks to two of our lovely trustess; Carmel Calvert and Louise Lee and also to our panel solicitors for attending. The Asbestos Law Partnership LLP, Irwin Mitchell, Leigh Day Asbestos, Slater and Gordon Lawyers and Thompsons Solicitors

πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ Tradespeople: this message is for you.

🏒 Do you manage or maintain a building?
It’s a legal responsibility to manage asbestos in non-domestic buildings.
If your building was built or refurbished before 2000, asbestos may still be present.
βœ”οΈ Identify where it is
βœ”οΈ Assess the risk
βœ”οΈ Put a management plan in place
⚠️ If disturbed, asbestos fibres can become airborne and cause serious illness.
Knowing your building could save lives.

CLINICAL TRAINING DAY NOVEMBER 2025

MAVSG were pleased to host a clinical training day at the Florrie in Liverpool. We had attendees from the various local hospitals to hear our programme of expert talks. The event covered a wide range of topics including:

Selection criteria for treatment and emerging treatment options in oncology – this talk was given by Dr Pope, oncologist from the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre
Tina Conroy from Pragma who is a chartered occupational hygienist gave a talk on asbestos containing materials and their uses providing particular focus on the ways females may be exposed to asbestos.
Marie Roberts who is the personal development lead for palliative end of life and bereavement care and is a clinical nurse lead from Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust gave a talk on how to navigate difficult dialogues in care, and also ways to ensure you maintain self-care when working in the care sector.
Dr Jennie Hoyle, Occupational Respiratory Physician from North Manchester General Hospital provided a talk on understanding silicosis.
We were so grateful for the amazing speakers who kindly gave up their time to enable us to put on this event and we were so pleased to see the great turn-out. It was so lovely to get to see all the attendees who help support our service users.
