Applications are now open for the Liverpool String Academy 🎻

Are you or do you know a young person looking to level up their string playing and join an ensemble? The LSA is open to applications from new students under 25 based in the Liverpool City Region, for all of our ensembles, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

This is a video of our flagship ensemble, the Liverpool String Academy Orchestra, which is formed of members from the Advanced ensemble, our tutors and visiting professionals. The Orchestra is free to be a part of and develops an exceptionally high level of ensemble playing, through weekly rehearsal, high profile concert opportunities and international tours.

There is an audition required to join the Advanced ensemble, which will take place on the week of the 13th July. Requirements can be found on our website, emae.co.uk, or by following the link in our bio.

We also invite anyone interested in applying to come to our Summer Showcase this Saturday 20th June, 1-5pm in Crosby. Prospective advanced students are also welcome to ‘Come & Play’ the Handel Concerto in this video, learning it in an afternoon with our tutors.

Liverpool String Academy Prospectus 2026-2027 🎻

Here is LSA prospectus for the upcoming academic year. We’re now taking applications from prospective students for all of our ensembles, beginner, intermediate and advanced. All applications close on the 1st July.

The only ensemble that requires an audition is the advanced ensemble. These will take place the week commencing the 13th July.

Those interested are invited to attend our ‘Come & Play’ session this Saturday 20th June at the LSA Summer Showcase at St Faith’s Church in Crosby, which begins at 1pm. Over the afternoon, you will learn Handel’s Concerto Grosso op6/1, then join the orchestra for a performance at 4pm. Sheet music for this can be found in advance in our bio.

This will be a relaxed opportunity to meet the LSA tutors, spend time with other students and experience what it’s like to be in the Academy.

We invite anybody interested in supporting the Liverpool String Academy to come along to our Summer Showcase, which begins at 1pm, with live chamber music, games and refreshments, ending with a performance by the LSA Orchestra at 4pm.

It’s not long now until this year’s LSA Summer Showcase! 🎻

On Saturday 20th June we’re hosting an afternoon of chamber music, games, with a cake sale and a chance to come and play with the orchestra!

There are activities from 1pm with a concert at 4pm. The whole afternoon is free to attend and we encourage anyone to come and support, with donations welcome!

We’re also inviting any students grade 7 standard or above looking to audition for the orchestra in July to come and learn a concerto in an afternoon, for the 4pm performance. You can find the music in our bio, or my scanning this qr code! We’ll be playing Handel’s Concerto Grosso op 6/1.

We’re very excited to announce that the Liverpool String Academy Orchestra with be performing with Thelma Handy at the Wirral Chamber Music Festival! 🎻

On Friday 26th June at 7:30pm, join us for an evening of baroque music performed by the young musicians of the LSA alongside the Joint Leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Thelma Handy, following their critically acclaimed concert together at the Tung Auditorium in April.

There will also be a rare performance of Schreivogel’s concerto for solo violin and strings, edited specially for EMAE by Professor Michael Talbot.

Applications Now Open! 🎶

You can now apply to be in the Liverpool String Academy starting in September 2026 by filling out the form at https://www.emae.co.uk/apply

We are accepting applications for all of our ensembles, but there is an audition required to be in our advanced group.

These will take place on the week of the 13th July, with a list of requirements available on this post. We invite everyone of approximately grade 7 level between the ages of 11-23 to get in touch. No formal grades are needed.

If you are thinking of applying to the Liverpool String Academy, we encourage you to come to our Summer Showcase on the 20th June to introduce yourself and get to know about what we do.

Those looking to be in the advanced ensemble can come and take part in a ‘Come & Play’ session, where we’ll be learning a concerto in an afternoon.

We’re so exited to announce our two concerts in Italy that we’ll be playing as the conclusion of our summer residency involving both our advanced and intermediate ensembles 🎻

With the amazing we’ll be playing Bach’s concertos for oboe d’amore and for violin and oboe and the Vivaldi oboe concerto in D minor RV454.

The first concert will take place in the beautiful Valtournenche village in the Aosta Valley and it’s been included in their summer events calendar.

The second concert will be in Chiesa di San Dalmazzo in the heart of Turin and it’s hosted by the prestigious festival Back to Bach organised by

The concerts will feature music by J.S. Bach, A.Corelli, G.F. Handel and A. Vivaldi.

Our Intermediate Ensemble will next be playing this Saturday at our whole charity christmas concert at St Faith’s Church, Crosby! 🎻

Come and celebrate the closing of the year with the Liverpool String Academy’s three cohorts, Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner who will be playing a mixture of Baroque and festive repertoire in a gorgeous space.

It’s free to attend and begins at 6pm!
