Behind every brain injury is a family quietly grieving.
Not just for what happened… but for who was lost.

Partners can feel unbearably alone — standing beside someone they love, yet missing the person they once knew so deeply. Conversations change. Connection shifts. And the weight of holding everything together can feel invisible to the world.
Friends disappear through grief or confusion of brain injury and its effects on the individual.

Children may not have the words for it, but they feel it — the confusion, the distance, the ache of losing the parent they remember. It’s a different kind of grief… one where the person is still here, but everything has changed.

This journey isn’t just about recovery — it’s about loss, identity, and learning to live with a new reality no one asked for.

Grieving the “old you” is hard.
Loving someone through that grief is even harder.

And no family should have to carry that alone.
We are here to support you and help you come to terms with your loss , your new identity and the possibility of loving the new you in time .

To help your partner adapt to the new version of you , allow them to fall in love with the new you .
No one understands it more than the people who have been through it but not one person has walked in your shoes so guidance is essential.

🧠 Brain Injury Awareness Month – We See You 💙

Brain injury is often invisible — but its impact is real, life-changing, and felt every single day. It can affect memory, emotions, relationships, confidence, and the ability to feel like yourself again.

When friendships drift away…
When invitations become fewer…
When you’re told “you look fine” but feel anything but…

We see you. You are not alone.

At Headway Sefton, we are here to support individuals, families, and carers through every step of the journey. Our community offers understanding, connection, and a safe space where you can be heard without judgement.

Heading a ball in sport can expose players to repeated impacts to the brain. Even without losing consciousness, these impacts can lead to concussion and, over time, increase the risk of long-term brain health issues. Awareness, early recognition, and proper recovery are essential to protect players at all levels.

If you or someone you support has been affected by a brain injury, Headway Sefton is here to help.

🧠 Concussion Awareness Matters 🧠

A concussion is a type of brain injury that can affect how a person thinks, feels, and functions — and it’s important to recognise the signs early.

👀 Look out for symptoms like:
• Headache, dizziness or confusion
• Nausea or blurred vision
• Sensitivity to light or noise
• Memory problems or feeling “foggy”
• Mood changes or sleep issues

⚠️ What to do:
• Stop activity immediately
• Rest (both physically & mentally)
• Seek medical advice
• Monitor symptoms closely

🚫 Avoid: sports, alcohol, driving, and anything that could worsen symptoms

If symptoms get worse or don’t improve, seek urgent medical help.

💙 At Headway Sefton, we’re here to support anyone affected by brain injury.
