Lister Steps at The Old Library

Lister Steps at The Old Library Community, Events Venue, Cafe, Childcare Since 1905, The Old Library has been a symbol of hope in L13.

Funded by wealthy philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, this iconic building was donated to the people of Liverpool as a safe space for learning and served four generations as a much-loved local library until it closed & fell into disrepair in 2006. With so many fond memories of The Old Library, local charity Lister Steps knew this special building was an important part of our community’s shared heritag

e and in 2012, we embarked on the long journey to bring it back to life. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and support from Liverpool City Council, we have repaired, restored & re-designed the building into a multi-use venue for events, learning and fun. We are proud to call The Old Library our new home and thrilled to welcome you back through its doors!

Sadly, Emma, our cook has left for pastures new but Danielle will be taking her place from the 15th June. In the meantime, we can still offer a revised menu all this week as follows: For breakfast (from 10:30), scrambled eggs or beans on toast. For lunch (from 11:30 to 1:30), cheese toasted sandwiches, a soup of the day (Monday it's Leek & Potato) , ham or cheese sandwiches (with or without salad), a triple decker with ham, cheese and salad and a £5 meal deal (sandwich, crisps and a soft drink). Hope you'll call in and try out our new menu!

Huge thanks on behalf of Lister Steps@The Old Library for the very generous award of two grants by West Derby Wastelands, one for a program of fitness classes, another to help us secure The Old School Site and keep people safe. The trustees do sterling work and they and the charity make a huge difference to the local area. It is much appreciated by all!
