Strike action begins at GAC at the QEII dock in Eastham 🚩

Highly skilled dock operatives are fighting for fair pay and better arrangements around on-call working.
With offers as low as 2%, workers cannot accept another year of falling behind.

More than a dozen dock workers at GAC at the QEII dock in Eastham are to take strike action next week after a poor pay offer from their employer.

Workers at GAC will be taking industrial action on 1, 3 14 and 16 September 2026 🚩

Unite the union regional officer Ian McCluskey said: "There is a real appetite from the members to strike this year, because they reasonably believe that they have been left behind in pay deals for a number of years. This cannot continue and they are determined to win this dispute."

Solidarity to biomedical staff at Blackburn and Burnley hospitals ✊

They have walked out this week over the NHS trust’s refusal to pay holiday pay they are entitled to.

“Workers at these hospitals are at the end of their tether and have lost all confidence in management to resolve this issue. They have been left with no choice but to take strike action to get their legally entitled holiday pay.” Helen Flanagan, regional officer.

29 June - 3 July & 6-10 July

Supply issues of some of the UK’s favourite alcohol brands are expected this summer, as Encirc workers have escalated strike action.

Further strike dates are set for 3 to 15 May and 1 to 15 June. 🚩

“Strike action has proved disruptive so far, and this escalation will only lead to further delays to glass bottle production.

“Encirc must change tack and come back to negotiations with a meaningful solution to the problems our members are raising, otherwise industrial action will only continue.” Andrew Johnson, Regional Officer.
