"A population-wide analysis covering two decades of health data revealed that women are diagnosed later than men for more than 700 diseases by four years on average.

Diagnostic hurdles remain a primary barrier to equity. Only 2 in 10 women receive a correct menopause diagnosis when first seeking help. Similarly, conditions like endometriosis can take more than seven years to be correctly identified, leading to years of preventable pain and health complications."

These are not fun facts. 🛑 But we can hope they prompt a discussion.

The Women’s Health Strategy was renewed in April 2026, but quite honestly, it hasn't received the attention it deserves. We are sharing these figures because we’ve seen how easily momentum can pitter out. We cannot let this strategy become another forgotten document; we need to keep our foot on the pedal.

⏳ The "Bonus" Years: Women live longer than men, but we spend over a quarter of our lives - roughly 22 years - in poor health.

📍 The Postcode Lottery: Women in the poorest areas spend over a third of their lives in ill health and die 8 years sooner than those in the wealthiest areas.

📢 A Crisis: Black women are still nearly 3 times more likely to die during childbirth than White women.

📉 Wrong Direction: Healthy life expectancy for women is actually falling, not rising.

We don't want this conversation to fade away like it has in the past. Real change requires constant attention and accountability, not just a one-day headline.

Let’s make sure this discussion stays as loud as it needs to be. ✊

🔊🏳️‍🌈 Rebels, creatives, girls, guys, g**s, and the entire rainbow family: get yourselves down to the Phil this Thursday for a riotous evening with the legendary poet Joelle Taylor! 🖋️

With a vividly sketched cast of characters, Taylor is set to give a winning staged reading of her brand-new collection, - which dives into the lives of four butch le****ns across five decades of underground q***r history - clubs, the culture, and the radical resistance that shaped their world.

Through this vehicle, Taylor explores the scars of oppression alongside the beauty and unstoppable spirit of the LGBTQ+ community.

If you love a supportive, open, and raucous crowd, this is exactly where you need to be. You’ll laugh, you might cry, and you will definitely connect.

Whether you’re looking to network with local artists or just hang out with like-minded friends, this is the ultimate space to just be yourself.

Come for the storytelling - stay for the crowd!

Are we systematically undercounting violence against women?

New research from Lancaster University and Royal Holloway, University of London suggests the answer is a resounding yes.

A study led by Professor Sylvia Walby reveals that official statistics may underestimate violence against women by up to 39%. For domestic violence specifically, that reaches 59%.

Why the discrepancy?

The current Office for National Statistics (ONS) capping system limits how many times repeated offences against the same victim are recorded. Because domestic violence is disproportionately frequent and repeated, this cap effectively masks the true scale of the crisis.

Why this matters:

Data drives funding. It dictates which services are resourced and which interventions are commissioned. When the data is fundamentally flawed, the support systems meant to protect women are built on a hollow foundation.

We cannot fix what we can't measure.

Liverpool launches ‘Halo Points’ in nightlife spots to keep women safe.💡

A total of nine bright orange ‘Halo Points’ have been dotted across the city, including placements in Concert Square and Mathew Street.

With CCTV and a direct link to 999 operators, these points will provide quick assistance for anyone feeling vulnerable.

While we welcome these points as a vital step in offering quick assistance and deterring violence, we remain clear: physical infrastructure is only part of the solution.

True safety requires us to tackle the root causes of violence against women and girls. That means challenging the misogyny, inequality, and harmful behaviours that make such measures necessary in the first place. ✊

Pleased to see Liverpool is leading the way with this unique initiative. 💡

Nine have been dotted across the city, including placements in Concert Square and Mathew Street.

With CCTV and a direct link to 999 operators, these points will provide quick assistance for anyone feeling vulnerable.

This infrastructure offers essential immediate support, but let's not forget our focus remains on the long-term work of tackling the root causes of violence against women and girls. ✊

PC Frank Stevens's plan for Halo Points is being introduced across Liverpool.
