We've had a great time over LGBTQ+ History Month on exploring objects together.

If you are a health professional working in a setting and would like to host your own activity with hearing stories of LGBTQ+ history you can loan our Memory Suitcase today containing objects and stories from the people themselves. Memory Suitcases are a great way of creating conversation and ensuring stories are heard from across the decades. Get in touch today at [email protected]

Last year with the support of Welsh Government, we were able to explore LGBTQ+ collections across Wales and using objects from Museums to share stories.

We all have a favourite mug, and this one was available to buy at the Colwyn Bay Pier Trust stall which was fundraising for Colwyn Bay Pride. The image shows the restored pier with Pride colours as the floorboards. Who has one of these in their kitchen cupboard?

For LGBTQ+ History Month we will be spending some time reflecting on the work we have been doing with the LGBTQ+ dementia community in sharing stories and keeping memories alive through objects.

This advert which celebrates 15 years of Heaven, a gay nightclub in 70s London, was chosen as an object which held memories for participants. The club held many different dance events for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Let us now where you have been out dancing!

Day 5 - online dementia awareness training for professionals 💻

Our online training for Health and Social Care professionals has now been updated for 2026. As a module based course, professionals are able to complete each learning that their own speed and when or where is convenient to them. With videos recorded by our team at House of Memories, participants are guided through workshops and reflective tasks to explore best practice with person-centred care and how to achieve this with the support of our programme. This is a great way of learning from others and picking up new resources to use within practice.

For each day this week we will be unwrapping a new session or resource available for 2026.

Day 4 - Memory Suitcase

As museums we are experts at keeping memories and stories safe. When people can't get to our venues we are able to send pieces of our venues to them. Our 'free to loan', Memory Suitcases are a great option for care providers, hospitals or dementia groups to host their own memory and culture activity in the comfort of their own environment. With each themed suitcase containing a range of objects, guide sheets and more the suitcases are a great option for bringing activities to life.

If you are a service looking to loan a suitcase please visit our website to explore the range of themes available: https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/house-of-memories/memory-suitcases
