During the session Helen will do some exercises based around STRUCTURE but if you'd rather use the time to work on your own writing then feel free to bring it with you. Remembering Sean Garrett (1958–2026).
We’re saddened to share this tribute to Sean Garrett, grandson of Liverpool writer, seaman and activist George Garrett.
Sean played an important part in helping bring his grandfather’s remarkable life and work to new audiences, including sharing family memories and taking part in the story of George Garrett’s meeting with George Orwell in Liverpool.
For Writing on the Wall, Sean was much more than a link to the Garrett family. He was a valued colleague, friend and fellow Garretteer whose enthusiasm, knowledge and humour, helped shape the Archive Project.

Explore poetry as a tool for resistance, storytelling and self-expression. Participants will discover how poets use language, imagery and repetition to express personal experiences, challenge injustice and share meaningful messages. Through exploring protest poetry and the Al-Ghazal form, participants will develop and write their own poems inspired by themes that matter to them.

The session starts at 10.30am. Bring whatever you’re working on – flash fiction, poetry, memoir, a novel, essays, scripts or something entirely new. The goal is simple: to commit time to your writing within a supportive community setting. At the end of the session, there’s the opportunity (if you wish) to share your work, receive constructive feedback, build confidence and connect with like-minded writers.

Every story deserves to be heard.
Homelessness can affect anyone, yet too often the stories behind it go unheard.
This is a first glimpse of Words from the Whitechapel, a new storytelling podcast from ReCITE hosted by Mandy Redvers-Rowe.
Through honest conversations and lived experiences, the series explores the human stories behind homelessness, health and access to support, challenging assumptions and creating spaces for voices that are too often overlooked.

Mandy Redvers-Rowe is Writer-in-Residence for the ReCITE project, based in Aintree Hospital's Emergency Department.

Working in both hospital and community settings, Mandy has spent time listening to and working alongside people with lived experience of homelessness, helping create a space where stories can be shared in their own words.

Words from the Whitechapel brings those conversations together in a podcast exploring the realities behind homelessness and the importance of listening to lived experience.

Join us for Time to Write, a relaxed writing session offering dedicated time and space to focus on your work in a supportive community setting.

Writing on the Wall are recruiting three new roles for their National Heritage Lottery funded programme that celebrates 25 years of Creating Change Through the Power of Words.

Since 2000, Writing on the Wall (WoW) has worked to uncover, preserve and celebrate the often-overlooked heritage of Liverpool’s diverse communities. Our focus has always been on amplifying the lived experiences of marginalised groups – including Black, Asian, LGBTQ+, refugee and working-class communities – voices that are essential to understanding Liverpool’s past and shaping its future.

At the heart of this work is our archive. It holds 25 years of creative, cultural and political memory – from our festivals and projects to the people who made them happen. We are looking to recruit:

-A Project Archivist who will preserve, catalogue, digitise and promote our archives;

-A Heritage Project Assistant - an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community heritage, archive practice, and creative programming;

-A Freelance Project Evaluator to design and deliver an independent evaluation of the project in line with Heritage Lottery Fund guidance and best practice.
