Banner-making workshops at Kitty’s!

At Two Up Two Down we exist to make sure that everyone can live well, here, in Anfield and Everton. During October, we’re teaming up with to invite you to share thoughts and ideas on what it means to live well: whether it’s safety, comfort or a cup of tea with friends. We are asking people to bring something to the table and co-design banners that represent living well to present in our neighborhood. We'll be experimenting with different techniques and hopefully participants will leave feeling inspired and possibly learnt a new skill, as well as contributing to the banner.

This Friday Kitty's, Two Up Two Down and Anfield People's Cinema are proud to present a screening of Power Station.

Date: Friday 9th October

Power Station is a 2025 documentary film directed by artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn that chronicles their grassroots community project to install solar panels on a residential street in Walthamstow, east London 🔋

Power Station began in the depths of lockdown with the question, ' What could we do from where we live, with the people around us, to build power - of energy and imagination?’ We wanted to bring this film to Anfield and Everton because it asks a question that feels close to home: What could community power look like here? ♻

Last week we were disappointed to hear that local business' and residents near to the former Breck Road Library had been informed of a planning application had been made to turn the former site into a betting shop ! 📚

Over the past 11 months we have seen local activists tirelessly campaign week in and week out to re-open the Library which provided so much to many in our neighbourhood. It promoted access to books and education as well as acting as a vital community hub hosting many services such as Children's play sessions, Craft mornings, Film afternoons and more.

To hear that a betting shop could potential take it's place is heart breaking. Betting shops are a perfect representation on how wealth is withdrawn from our communities. Praying on people's vulnerabilities and lining the pockets of individuals and shareholders a world away from the realities of deprivation that our community faces daily.

We must say NO! We're asking all those who used the library or know of someone who did to use Liverpool City Council's planning permission portal to voice objections. The more voices the better chance that this will be blocked. We also are asking people to continue to support Everton and Anfield need a library campaign and push for adequate and accessible library provision to be reinstated in the area.

🎞️ Come and join us for the opening night of Call Slip, photography exhibition and zine launch on Wednesday 30th September, 6pm-8pm.

📸 The culmination of our summer long participatory photography project in collaboration with artist Sam Batley. The project brought members of our community together to experiment with photography and writing to explore connection to place. All who pass through our space week by week, stopping to make something together and get to know each other a little better.

Since January 2025 we have had the pleasure of letting Anfield People's Cinema host their monthly film screening in the launderette. They have brought films from across the world to the big screen (or sheet in our case 🧺) as well as hosting workshops for our community to engage with around the film 🎨

At the end of this month they are spreading their wings and taking the show on the road with The Anfield People's Cinema Festival from 24th-27th September. They have worked with over 20 local volunteers to programme and design a film festival that has everything from much loved classics to cutting edge animation 📽️🍿
All the screenings will be free to attend and come with a free meal to all attendees 🍝

Dear customers,

We wanted to let you know that due to a planned far-right march happening in the local area tomorrow, we will be closing for the day at 12pm. This is to ensure the safety of our workers and customers.

We would like to express how gravely disappointed and saddened we are that this march has been organised in a clear attempt to sow hatred and cause fear within our neighbourhood.

We would like to reiterate that we as Kitty's Launderette stand firmly against any form of racism or intolerance, and we're committed to being a space that is safe for all that reflects the diversity that makes up our community.

We hope that all our customers and wider community stay safe tomorrow, and we will be open from Sunday operating with normal hours. ❤️

We can't believe it's been over a month since we had our Summer Street Party with Two Up Two Down 💃🌞🎊

What a day it was ! 💚

For a change it didn't rain (as it has for our last few parties) and although it might of been slightly too hot that didn't stop Mikey Kenney - Fiddle and Voice and Saltcutters from getting us all Ceilidh dancing !

We had over 100 people come down to enjoy a whole range of workshops and activities. We had the Liverpool Tool Library helping people use woodworking skills to make a handcrafted game 🛠️🪚

We had Kitty's Gardening group helping people make sub-irrigated plant pots with herb seedlings 🌱🌿 We'd love to see some pictures if your plants have started to grow !

We also had the Travelling Power Station come down to visit and helped us all imagine how the future of energy may look in our community ⚡🔋

We had amazing performances from Liverpool Irish Choir, Olavo Costa and Kitty's writers group. We were all blown away by the performances... What a wealth of talent we have in our community 👏👏👏

Free Bike Repair Session with Peloton Liverpool next Tuesday from 10am - 2pm 🚴🛠️

We're delighted to be hosting fellow community cooperative Peloton Liverpool as part of Cycling UK Big Bike Revival for this free bicycle repairs session 💚

There is no hidden cost just come along with yourself... and your bike of course! There will be an experienced bike mechanic on hand to help you out with minor repairs and carry out safety checks ✨
