Kindling Farm In 2023 we realised our 15 years of work by purchasing a 78 acre farm to transform into an organic agroforestry farm.

With 800 community investors Kindling Farm wants to revolutionise the way we grow, distribute and sell local fresh produce.

The most boring photo - but some hugely exciting progress. This is just our 2nd growing season and this week we have harvested: celery & cabbage for Liverpool primary schools; our first cauliflowers to the University of Manchester; a range of fresh produce including squash & beetroot to food access project Queen of Greens; squash and leeks to Community Cafe & Shop: Squash; a van load of fresh organic produce for Manchester' Unicorn Grocery, as well as kale, rainbow chard & celeriac to our sister organisation Veg Box People.

We spent Sunday celebrating the harvest season with our local communities 💚

We crafted sauerkraut using our red & white cabbages, made campfire apple crumbles and discovered 3 new ways to use ripe strawberries - thanks to incredible practitioners Lucy Dossor from , Ali Holden and Rose & Alex from ! To top it off, we enjoyed a delicious vegan Caribbean curry from and live music from .

Our Harvest Celebration was made possible with funding from Zero Waste LCR - by using ‘wonky’ veggies and salvaging our strawberries in summer, we were able to stop any potential food waste at the farm gates 👏

Possibly the best tasting apple ever and a rare find on the farm.

We remove the blossom from all our 2,000 young apple trees, so they don't fruit & concentrate on growing stronger.

But some flowers on this Spartan tree got missed and so we get a taste of our future!

We have been so engrossed in our Citizen Science Day on the farm today that we forgot to take any photos.

We carried out a whole range of activities to help build better understanding of the farm. We tested soil and compost, we tested the water in our ponds and borehole. We put out camera traps and set the moth traps up in the garden and polytunnel.

The really interesting findings for us were the really high levels of potassium in our compost, the fact that our borehole had very low bacteria levels and our ponds across the farm had no nitrates, but the brook that runs along the edge of our land did.

We've made the bold decision to move our winter salad growing operation from our Market Garden in Stockport to Kindling Farm.

Salad leaves are a significant income for us and sustained several jobs at our Woodbank Community Food Hub, but the challenges have been mounting there.

One real concern has been the blue oat mite that can decimate our polytunnel crops in the winter, another has been the pressure placed on our team by a crop that requires constant attention to detail and a lot of physical work.

By relocating the winter salad growing to the farm we can better support those who are looking after this needy crop, increase our yields and focus on crops that better suit our Woodbank site.
