Kindling Farm

Kindling Farm In 2023 we realised our 15 years of work by purchasing a 78 acre farm to transform into an organic agroforestry farm.

With 800 community investors Kindling Farm wants to revolutionise the way we grow, distribute and sell local fresh produce.

We are chuffed to be collaberating with this Merseyside organisation who share in our ethos to place good food at the heart of communities.

Crop Walking is our favorite weekly task. We inspect each crop and estimate how much we might have to harvest - an art we have not perfected yet!

Today we have been discussing when the celeriac and leeks and squash might be ready. We take samples back to the packshed to cut open, inspect and weigh and photograph. And then Helen sends on photos and starts talking to our wonderful buyers like Unicorn Grocery :-)

We are so proud of what our team have achieved in only our second year of farming. So its always a real pleasure to show new and old friends around, talk about our progress and most importantly our ambitions: we are here to grow the best food for those in our communities who most need it.

And a good friend of Kindling Farm Hugh Warwick has visited us for the first time and has taken these lovely photos of our fresh produce at their best.

It was a massive pleasure to welcome to the farm yesterday.

Hugh delivered a hugely informative and entertaining talk on and joined us for a tour of the farm.

Hugh is a leading advocate for a mammal that is classified as vulnerable to extinction by the Mammal Society - particulalry in rural areas.

Hugh was keen to see the biodiversity on the farm and take some photos - he is a talented photographer too, so we will be sharing some of his photos soon.

Thank you Hugh!

Can you help us harvest, chop, wash, freeze and pickle our surplus veg?
After a prolific couple of weeks, some of our summer produce is reaching the end of its harvest season. Everything is still delicious, so to reduce waste we are looking for help to preserve the veggies for community cooking projects and volunteer soups later in the year.

We will be pickling cucumbers, freezing spring onions, canning tomatoes (and much more) on Sunday 30th & Monday 31st August. Sign up via: https://kindling.org.uk/EventBooking

Today we have a camera crew on the farm making a short film about how we grow our vegtables.
This will be shown in all the schools in Liverpool that will be using our fresh produce from this Autumn.

This exciting and quite unique partnership has only been made possible by the creativity and can-do attitude of both Feeding Liverpool & Food For Thought Merseyside Ltd. So huge thank you to them for putting thier trust in us.

Our courgettes are really slowing down, after 6 weeks of harvesting. We've been harvesting around 400 kg a week, from 3/4 acre. Helen has been picking twice a day. And last night she took a short break to enjoy the eclipse. 😅

This Saturday, Hugh Warwick will join us at the Farm for our next Reading The Wild event. Hugh will be sharing his love for our prickly friends: hedgehogs(!) and what we can do to help them thrive in nature. He’ll also be selling his latest publication, the RSPB Pocket Book of Hedgehogs 🦔

Tickets are limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment: https://kindling.org.uk/event/reading-wild-conversation-hugh-warwick

Our first tomato harvest is destined for Queen of Greens Bus - Merseyside’s affordable mobile greengrocer. We passionately believe people living in low income communities should have easy access to affordable, organic fresh produce. So its always a delight to show Paul where their produce has been harvested from, just a few hours before its for sale in communities just a few miles away.
