⚠️We would normally have a volunteer session tomorrow (Weds 24th), but looking at the weather warning, we have decided to cancel. It would not be sensible or safe to be working in such heat.
I think this is a first for us - normally it's the wind and rain we have to deal with, not blistering heat! ☀️☀️

Out wandering the gardens the other week and smiled at this. This, if I've got my herbs right, is fennel and it's growing out of the top step in Marine Garden by the rockery. We've tried to stop it growing in that spot. Encouraged it to grow somewhere else. But to no avail - the top step by the rockery is where it wants to be!
I'm sure if we deliberately tried to plant something there it would refuse to grow! 😂

Big thanks to our regular volunteers and the team from BDO accountancy who came along to help yesterday. We spent the day working in Crescent Garden and transformed another pathway including the wall and old seating area. Well done everyone! The "before" photos are at the end. 🙂

Reminder that, weather permitting, our first garden maintenance session this month is tomorrow Tuesday 9th June. We will meet in Crescent Garden at 10am.

We also hope to be joined once more by a team of corporate volunteers from BDO who are helping us for the day. 🙂

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. The work we do is generally tidying up and no gardening skills are needed. All equipment is provided but we recommend you bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.

Lots of little poppies sprung up in Marine Garden lately. They were buzzing with bees too, but none of them would stay still for a photo opportunity!

Thanks to everyone who came along to Wednesday's gardening session. Lovely warm day we had out there. Our own volunteers, along with extra help from our regular corporate group at Government Commercial Agency, cleared weeds from the central paths near the raised bed and also completely de-weeded the entire steps.. Well done everyone!

Reminder that our next garden maintenance session is tomorrow Wednesday 27th May. We will meet in Crescent Garden at 1pm, but will also be around from 10am as we are being joined by extra volunteers from Crown Commercial Services in the next of our corporate volunteer days this year. This is the fourth year they have volunteered for us! We are planning to work in the central area on the paths radiating out from the raised bed.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. The work we do is generally tidying up and no gardening skills are needed. All equipment is provided but we recommend you bring your own gardening gloves if you have them. In this heat we also advise bringing water with you.

We will work for one or two hours and then finish off with tea/coffee/ice! and biscuits. 🙂
