💙 A very special visit to the Blue Base. 💙

Everton legends Peter Reid and Graeme Sharp joined participants at our social isolation programme this week to chat about all things Howard’s Way.

The pair, who starred in the iconic film about legendary manager Howard Kendall, took part in a Q&A and saw how Everton in the Community’s Stand Together initiative helps bring people together.

The visit comes ahead of Movies on the Mersey, with Hill Dickinson Stadium hosting its first-ever drive-in cinema this August Bank Holiday weekend.

🎬 Bank Holiday Monday will see a special screening of Howard’s Way at the Blues' waterfront home, with all proceeds supporting Everton in the Community.

New research highlights that primary school-age children from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to be able to swim 25m and perform a safe self-rescue.

It’s an issue Everton in the Community is passionate about addressing, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn to swim and develop vital water safety skills.

Last season, we helped remove barriers to swimming in Knowsley by installing a pop-up pool at Knowsley Lane Primary School, giving 475 children and families access to free swimming lessons and water safety education over five weeks. 🏊

The pool also welcomed children from other local schools, alongside dedicated sessions for parents and toddlers, helping to build confidence in the water across the wider community.

The impact was significant, with 93% of Year 6 pupils achieving the National Curriculum standard for swimming 25m competently, while 100% swam unassisted for at least 15m – a remarkable achievement considering only 15% of the class had previously been in a pool or met those expectations. 🛟

69% of Year 5 pupils also achieved the National Curriculum standard, up from just 8% at the start of the programme, with most having never previously been in a swimming pool.

💙 "I wouldn't be sitting here now."

It was fantastic to see our award-winning BEAT Breathlessness Hub highlighted on ITV News Granada Reports yesterday evening, with Ray sharing his powerful story.

🫀Designed to detect heart failure and lung conditions early, the initiative has screened more than 2,000 people within the community, including 74-year-old Ray who was diagnosed with heart failure and is now on life-saving medication.

🫁 The initiative is delivered by Everton in the Community and funded by British Heart Foundation, in partnership with NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, University of Liverpool and heart failure charity the Pumping Marvellous Foundation - Help for Hearts .

🤝 In collaboration with Merseyside Police and Ludovico Media, we’ve created an immersive VR experience designed to help young people understand the real-world dangers of Child Criminal Exploitation.

Joined by G’wed actor Philip Shaun McGuinness and our very own Safe Hands participant, Tynalela, we brought the experience to life through powerful scenarios designed to encourage young people to recognise risks and educate them on where they can turn to for support. 👏💙

Everton in the Community and Merseyside Police are using virtual reality to help young people understand the real-world risks of child criminal exploitation.

A new immersive film experience places young people at the centre of a realistic scenario, giving them the opportunity to make decisions, recognise warning signs and see how their choices can lead to different outcomes.

The VR experience was shaped by EitC participants and features real police officers, actors from the charity’s programmes alongside Evertonian and actor Philip Shaun McGuinness, known for his roles in G’Wed and The Responder.

By bringing these situations to life in a safe and engaging way, we're helping to start important conversations and equip young people with the knowledge to make informed choices.

We are delighted to share that Everton in the Community has been selected as a finalist in the Liverpool Chamber's 2026 Liverpool Innovation and Impact Awards.

We have been shortlisted in the 'Education Innovator' category for our delivery of the Steve Morgan Foundation Community Impact Model - an innovative, place-based approach designed to improve educational outcomes, protect young people from exploitation and create pathways to careers.

The comprehensive programme tackles the barriers faced by young people growing up in areas of high deprivation, helping them to build brighter futures and, importantly, believe those futures are possible.

The model is structured around five interconnected themes: inspiring education, engaging community provision, one-to-one support, career pathways, and health and wellbeing.

Through strong partnership and tailored delivery, Everton in the Community and the Steve Morgan Foundation are redefining what education can achieve, creating lasting opportunities and changing outcomes for young people across the Liverpool City Region. 💙
